Sam's Uptown Café — Restaurant in Charleston

Went in for a few apps (6 wings, fried mushrooms, tater tots) and a couple beers after traveling all day. After our first beer we sat with empty beers for a good 15 minutes before being asked if we wanted another round. After getting second round I asked to place a food order. After placing the order for 3 quick fried food options I waited for 20 something minutes before THE ONLY PERSON WORKING asked if I had gotten my food yet. I was kind of surprised by the question because their were only six people sitting in the bar and she was THE ONLY ONE SERVING. I said no with a puzzled tone. She went to the kitchen (which is in plain sight of the bar seats, so I saw her go tell the cook that there was a ticket which he had not even started yet) only for her to walk back to me to tell me that it was almost ready despite me seeing that whole encounter..... 7 more minutes pass so we are at about 30 minutes now, she returns and tells us that they are out of tater tots and offers cheese fries instead. Sure fine. After plating my wings the cook grabbed a trash can bare handed and then without washing his hands reached into the celery and grabbed some and put it on my plate. I just removed the celery from my plate at this point because it would have been a hassle to even mention. Ask for check at the end and the bartender that doesn't really tend the bar too attentively mentions that she discounted the fries and that she thought "that was fair for the trouble" came off rude and dismissive. Guess you gotta be a Mountaineer to get any decent service at this place. And I didn't like writing this at all because anytime I write a review it's because I liked something. Really cool folk at the bar and has the right vibe, just needs attentive staff that care enough to take care of guest and also not lie about food being almost ready when the kitchen is quite literally in plain sight. 37 minutes for fries, fried mushrooms and six wings is CRAZY when it's the ONLY...

I absolutely love this place but today I am beyond upset. I asked for a chicken Philly with no onions and another chicken Philly with Just, chicken cheese and bread and no pickle in the box one and a Steak Philly how it comes 2 out 3 of my orders was correct. The other that was wrong was mine. I called to tell them that my order was wrong and I will come back tomorrow because the roads are very slick and not safe and i’ve already came out once and wasn’t coming out again, other than the lady saying sorry about your meal, replace it and write your name down as in good customer service I was met with attitude on the phone her response was I watched him make the box. He might’ve just switched it up. ( in reference to which box, the pickle should be in) And I replied even which with the pickle being in the wrong box , the sandwich was still wrong And I would like to come back tomorrow to get my sandwich correct she replies are you gonna eat i reply, and say no she says how am I even supposed to know that you could of already eaten the food already. How would I know? I reply and say I have no problem bringing you the food that I’m not going to eat tomorrow she replies and says yeah OK and hangs up the phone I understand having a bad day, but taking it out on your customers is not...

My first experience at Sam’s Uptown Cafe was horrendous. I went in for lunch around 2pm and immediately the bartender was rude and ignored me as I stood waiting by the door not knowing if I should seat myself or wait to be seated. Approaching the bar she looks at me, more like right through me, and I asked if I could sit wherever and all I get is a “yea”. No menu was offered or nothing so I walked to the bar and she stood with her back to and looked down and saw a menu so picked it up and looked at it. I was one of only 3 people in the restaurant at the time. So I waited for her to stop ignoring me and she asked me what I wanted. I placed my order and sat down. I waited 7 minutes for a small plastic solo cup of Diet Coke and when I thanked her after bringing it to my table she ignored me and went back to the bar. A few moments later a woman in an expensive business suit walked in and sat at the bar and was immediately offered a menu and her drink quickly retrieved.
