I hate leaving these kinds of reviews but unfortunately I had a really bad experience at Rock City cakes today. As someone who has worked mostly in public facing positions, I try to be as patient and understanding as I can. I realize working with the public can be stressful and overwhelming at times and everyone deserves grace. However, today was one of those rare times when I was genuinely treated poorly by a staff member and I feel like others should know the quality of customer service offered at this establishment. For context, I'm not in Charleston a lot but my friends and I love coming to the city when we are able. Rock City has been one of our favorite haunts. It has a great atmosphere and, from what I can remember, the offerings are always delicious. Today we strolled in for a little treat and the staff member at the counter was extremely rude. So rude, in fact, that I left before getting to enjoy the pastry I was looking forward to purchasing. I personally don't think it's a realistic demand for employers to expect the overt friendliness from their staff but the level of customer service I experienced today was beyond unfriendly...it was downright abysmal. I was treated with annoyance, aggravation, and immaturity. I asked for one for the cute pumpkin cupcake in the case and the tone with which the employee replied to me was genuinely unkind. The employee didn't grab the item for me and after a short period I politely asked again as I didn't know if they thought I had asked for the price. The employee was very argumentative with me after that. I don't know if they were offended that I asked for the cupcake twice but I didn't stick around to find out. I would've stayed and completed my transaction had it been a moment of misunderstanding but I was truly treated like the biggest imposition for being a customer. I'm genuinely sad and disappointed that I'll be scratching Rock City off the list of places we spend our time and money when we travel to Charleston. Again, I have nothing negative to say about the goods and atmosphere of this awesome place but if you are expecting basic fundamentals of customer service, I'm afraid Rock City will leave a bad taste...

I called rock city they were about to close, my phone battery was literally at 5 percent and I live out rocky fork so cell service is BAD.. when they answered he said yes they make them and he was transferring my call to Courtney, I bet you can guess what happened next, I lost service and my phone died. By now it was past closing time and I threw in the towel it wasn’t meant to be.
That is until I got a text from them still trying to get in touch with me even though it was way after they closed for the day. Long story short Courtney stayed after work for a really short notice order that she definitely didn’t have to do, around 10pm she was done and sent me pictures once again that she definitely didn’t have to do! The next day I picked it up and Megan literally walked the cake up to my window BC there wasn’t any parking, shout out to her as well!

Read moreI’m giving Rock City 3 stars because I went in there today with my 2 kids a first time customer and came out a little disappointed. I was hoping to get an order made for my sons bday party next week on the 8th and that’s literally 8 days away from today. The woman told me I needed to give them a 2 weeks in advance in the future and that there was no way she could make it by next week. She even told me she’s made what I was requesting before as if it was so easy but clearly not easy enough to have it done by next week. When I walked out I told both ladies to have a nice day and they said nothing back, I felt zero welcoming arms. The only thing that felt welcoming was how decorated the place was, because it is very flashy and colorful and filled with art. One of my reasons for giving them 3 stars. And of course their yummy cupcakes looking like they’re on steroids. I even purchased several cupcakes because I wanted to make the experience good for me and my children who barely ever go to Charleston anymore. I think in the future the ladies there should greet their customers more and next time don’t push away what could’ve been a...
