Our experience at Kings Tide was truly disappointing, to say the least. We've been to this restaurant a few times before and have always enjoyed our dinner, especially because of the breathtaking view. However, our recent Valentine's night was a complete letdown.
It all started when we arrived for our reservation. Despite being told it would only take two minutes to set up a table, we ended up waiting for ten minutes while others with reservations at the same time were seated immediately. There were plenty of empty tables all around, so it was frustrating to be kept waiting unnecessarily.
When our waiter finally arrived, he seemed like a nice person. However, he forgot to take our drink order and left us waiting for several minutes before circling back to ask us what we wanted. It was even more frustrating because he was standing right behind our table at the computer.
Moving on to the food, the calamari we ordered was undercooked and lacked seasoning. While it's difficult to mess up oysters on the half shell, the overall experience was marred by the subpar calamari.
We had to remind our waiter to take our entrée order, despite him being right next to us the whole time. Both of us ordered salads, which are typically served before the main course. However, our entrees arrived before only getting one of the salads.
To make matters worse, my husband's fish was tough, overcooked, and lacked flavor. My skirt steak was burnt, and the accompanying vegetables tasted spoiled.
Considering the disappointing experience we had, it was disheartening to see a bill of $300. We wouldn't have minded the price if any part of the evening had been good, but unfortunately, it fell far short of our expectations.
As frequent visitors to this restaurant, it's truly disheartening to see such a decline in quality. We hope that the management takes note of these issues and makes an effort to address them, so that other customers don't have to go through the same disappointment. Kings Tide has always been one of our favorite spots on DI, and we cherish the rare dinners we get to spend alone. We sincerely hope that improvements are made to restore the greatness this...
Read moreKingstide is a superb destination for Brunch and/or Dinner Kingstide excels in service and food – the two characteristics that, when combined, make for a great restaurant! Alex and Jackie have assembled a great team; they are friendly, welcoming and each and every one of them epitomizes customer service -upstairs and downstairs! The food is superb and the menus – and specials – are somewhat seasonal and set to appeal to a wide variety of tastes! Michael, the Bar Manager, has assembled a great wine list! He and his team run a great, welcoming and fun bar! He also makes the best bloody Mary!! We are there frequently and have never been disappointed!
Congratulations to Jackie Dornick on her to appointment to Assistant General Manager at Kingstide! She has been a member of the Kingstide community since the beginning. As a Server she was professional, knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming! She is the epitome of high-end customer service in the F&B business and a valuable Ambassador for the Kingstide family! She certainly is one of the reasons we frequent Kingstide!
The Kingstide is a fine dining venue that has made a great contribution to the food scene on Daniel Island. Chef Kevin creates great menus that are complimented by superb specials on a regular basis. He and his team are meticulous in their effort to ensure that the food is prepared to the highest standards. The servers – all of them – do their very best to ensure that it is always a memorable experience. The upstairs restaurant is a slightly more informal venue that is great for brunch and lunch. The Brunch/Lunch menu is creative and they recently introduced superb Brunch specialities! The bartenders are great – professional, creative, attentive and very friendly. We would particularly cite Meghan , Gene and Lydia whom we are most familiar with! Upstairs is also a great place to watch events such as the World Cup, OIympics, Super Bowl and other great events. All in all a must destination on...
Read moreHighly disappointing after reading the other reviews. I’m shocked and not sure we are even talking about the same restaurant. The only reason we are giving it two stars is for the beautiful location and scenery. The down stairs dining area where we were originally sat after arriving for our reservation was so loud we couldn’t even hear each other (at our small table) even while leaning in. The hostess deserves a 5 star rating because she totally understood and was very accommodating in helping us sit somewhere we could talk and enjoy our dinner. She was professional and very sweet. We ended up at a table upstairs behind the bar. The hostess upstairs was also very kind and accommodating. When our waiter approached our table it was very difficult to understand him and he was overly dramatic with his body language. My husband or I neither one could make out what he was saying. He did not offer any suggestions and when we asked questions about the menu, it was like pulling teeth to get information from him. He was not attentive at all. We were drinking wine and had water as well but he never came to refill them and the glass sat empty until we finally flagged him down for our check so we could leave and go somewhere else. The food here was highly disappointing. We ordered the seasonal fish which was mahi and just ok. My husband didn’t like it because is was overly charred. It was definitely not worth the price for what you got. We also ordered some peel and eat shrimp and again, not impressed. Overall it was a terrible experience and we will not go back. If you want drinks and appetizers with a beautiful view, it might be an okay place to go, but aside from that, I certainly don’t see all the hype. Maybe we caught them on an off night. Poor...
