Cast Iron Waffles — Restaurant in Charlotte

If you have food allergies or want great customer service, RUN from cast iron because you will be nothing but disappointed.

I have been going to this place almost 10 years and I recommended it to plenty of people, but suddenly I take that all back. For the last 2 years it has been going down hill. I have experienced long wait times, cold waffles, un drinkable coffee, and overall rude staff. Despite all that, I kept coming back in hopes that it would turn back around. However, today ended that.

My bf and I go this morning and he orders our food and coffee. He specifically says no Nutella or any nuts of any kind of the waffle because I am allergic. The receipt even said NO NUTELLA in all caps. When we get home we open the bag and the waffle is covered in Nutella so it had to be immediately trashed. We paid $22 for 2 medium coffees and a waffle that could quite literally send me the the hospital. We tried to call several times and they just don’t answer the phone.

I have been there on multiple occasions when the phone rings over and over again and the workers are just playing on their phones instead of answering the company phone. We end up going back to cast iron with a picture of the waffle and show it to the lady who didn’t seem to care. She said it wasn’t her it was the owner who made the waffle and that she left and we couldn’t get a refund because only the owner knew how to do that. She offers to make us a new waffle which was cold and only had like 6 pieces of fruit on it.

Such low effort especially for a restaurant who didn’t seem to care about a food allergy and if I assumed that waffle had chocolate on it instead of Nutella I would have gone to the hospital. The lady took down my boyfriends number and said the owner would call him back to discuss this but of course that didn’t happen.

Safe to say I will NEVER be going back to cast iron and will not be recommending it to anyone again. I’ll say this again- If you have food allergies or want great customer service, RUN from cast iron because you will be nothing but disappointed. I would give this experience ZERO...

We had such high hopes for this adorable little corner spot! The concept is wonderful and both the exterior, and interior, were warm and inviting on a spring day filled with bird song.

We love supporting small businesses and the great reviews pulled us in on a late Thursday morning. Unfortunately, the waffles, coffee, and service all fell well short of our expectations.

While not busy, the two people working seemed overwhelmed. Our waffles came out 10 minutes apart from each other. They were cold and hard, pulled from a plastic case where they are stored. We had difficulty trying to cut into them with provided utensils. Bland and flavorless. Coffee from the urn was lukewarm. Wife’s specialty coffee arrived after we were done eating.

Unfortunately, we did not eat most of the waffle(s) and the coffee was tossed.

I think it’d be a wonderful spot had the waffles been made fresh, coffee served hot, and orders arrived together as is the standard in any eatery. Perhaps we’ll give it another go...

This is a cute looking little place. I wanted to love it so bad, but when your only food option is waffles and they aren't even made fresh, I'm out. The waffles you get come out of a case, they are not made to order. As I was eating, I watch the lady who I assumed was the owner take waffles out of the back that were FROZEN and put them in the case for display and to thaw. Come on now. It's not hard at all to make a fresh waffle when a customer orders one. My husband got a lemon blueberry topping waffles. He essentially told me it taste like lemon cake icing on top. Again not great. I got a standard one. It was an waffle. Better than eggo waffles but again, it did not taste fresh or like it was made in the last couple hours. You could tell it was too dense and warmed up to order. If you want to create a great business, make the one food you serve fresh and stop making a huge batch to freeze and then thaw as needed. My family will not be coming back...
