The only reason I am giving this a 1 star rating is because there’s not the option for a 0 star rating. My sister and I walked into the building and waited in line for well over 30 min. I totally understand they were busy. If anything this made us feel good knowing that it must be good food if there’s this many people in line! We both ordered a two piece chicken meal and found a seat out in the front dining area. Upon sitting down a waitress came by Probbaly 10 minutes later and asked for our receipts. So we gave them to her and she wrote on them “table 2” and said she would return with our food. We waited almost AN HOUR and she finally brought out my sisters plate (mind you she ordered after me so you would have thought my order would have came first) so I stayed patient and kept waiting. Another 15 min goes by and I finally flagged down the waitress and politely asked if my food was coming too and she very rudely got an attitude and said “you know, everyone is waiting for their food and I’m doing the best I can, eveyone is wanting food” so I just simply said ok. I felt attacked because to be frank, we were the only white people in The Whole restaurant. eveyone else got their meals served to them in little to no wait time. But we sat for an hour. We finally got so irritated about it and seeing everyone else get served that we got up and got in line to get refunds. Still poor service and waited for a long time so we ended up walking out due to waiting for over an hour and didn’t get our food. I proceeded to call them and talked with Sharon the general manager. She said she knew the exact waitress we were talking about and asked for my number and said she would call me back. I told Sharon on the phone that we felt it was because we were white. She said they have been in the business for 21 years and do not discriminate on color. We feel differently. That was the worst service we have ever had and this was our very first time there! Lord knows Sharon won’t call me back or I get my money back. We spent 22 dollars on chicken that we never got served to us. That’s BS. To pay for something we never got. I want my money back. Clear discrimination at this place. Horrible...
Read moreI had the opportunity to visit here recently and wanted to bring back the taste of NC fry chicken to NYC for my husband to try as thus place was right outside my hotel I decided to get an 8 piece fry chicken, the Mix gizzard and liver, 2 smothered pork chops and 2 fried pork chops now me being from Trinidad 🇹🇹 and my husband with his SC roots was very excited and what we expected. He said he really loved the smothered pork chops, the gizzard, and fry pork chops he loved the texture, taste, and flavor. I never had smothered pork, so I like it, not love it. The fried pork chop I loved and enjoyed the fry liver, which my Mom cooked, never fried, so this was my first time. However, we both agreed that we were not very impressed with the fry chicken and felt it needed more seasoning and would be good with a spicy kick to it. If I am in the area again, i am ever in the area. I would definitely go there again to try some of their MANY many dishes. The workers are very friendly and helpful with suggestions the place is very clean with chairs you can sit on while waiting for your cooked to order meal ( I love that the food is not sitting in trays for hours but cooked as you order which means your food is cooked fresh so PLEASE have patients and wait or order and go ahead and run your errands.) There are also a few tables you can sit and eat if you don't want to take it home and share. I would recommend this place to everyone. And see you all next year after winter,...
Read moreThis review will be a bit.... different. Fair warning.
When you think of what makes a place a good grub joint, the first thing you think of is the food quality, right? Well this place delivers on that and with over 1k reviews I'm sure you guys get that already. However, the experience is a major part of how well you enjoy a meal anywhere. So that's what i'm going to focus on.
I'm from a small town in Virginia. My family and I made a trip to Charlotte to check out some museums, ended up in a hotel right across from this establishment, that was... unpleasant to say the least. We passed this place on the way to check in and something clicked in my mind, WE EATING THERE! So i make a call in.
I walk in, all 6'2", huge beard, scars, and tattoos, strait up good ol' boy whiteness. I swear the entire place stopped to stare at me when I walk in. The cashier was very polite, informed me my chicken wasn't ready yet, so i walk around a bit. There's all these nice hand paintings; MLK, Obama, you get the point, anyway the only thing i could think was, this is about to be the best damn chicken I'll ever eat. And boy was it ever.
-The chicken was on point. -Broccoli casserole was to die for -Mac and cheese wasn't for me (the baked kind most people bring to cookuts) -Lemonade was obviously homemade, very good.
If the place served beer I'd almost consider voting...
