I recently had the pleasure of dining at Curry Gate, and it was an extraordinary culinary adventure! This hidden gem perfectly blends Indian and Nepalese flavors, offering an unforgettable dining experience. Our server, Puja, was a shining star, ensuring our visit was nothing short of exceptional from start to finish.
We began our feast with the Chicken Tikka Masala, a symphony of flavors that captivated our senses. The chicken was exquisitely tender, marinated in a blend of spices that imparted a deep, smoky flavor, then simmered in a luxurious, velvety sauce. The rich, creamy tomato base was infused with aromatic spices, creating a harmonious balance that was both indulgent and comforting. Each bite was a revelation, with layers of flavors unfolding on the palate.
Next, we savored the Curry Chicken, a masterpiece in its own right. The chicken was perfectly cooked, succulent, and juicy, bathed in a robust curry sauce that was a delightful fusion of bold spices and fragrant herbs. The sauce had a mesmerizing depth, with hints of cumin, coriander, and turmeric mingling seamlessly, complemented by a gentle heat that warmed the soul. This dish transported us straight to the vibrant streets of India and Nepal.
The Butter Naan bread was an absolute revelation. Freshly baked to golden perfection, it was soft and pillowy, with a slight crisp on the edges. Each piece was brushed with melted butter, adding a luscious richness that made it impossible to resist. The naan was the perfect vehicle for sopping up the delectable sauces, enhancing every bite with its heavenly texture and flavor.
To complete our meal, we enjoyed a generous serving of Basmati Rice. The rice was impeccably cooked, light and fluffy, with each grain perfectly separate. It provided the ideal canvas for the richly spiced dishes, absorbing the flavors and adding a delightful contrast to the robust curries.
The ambiance at Curry Gate is cozy and inviting, with a charming blend of Indian and Nepalese decor that creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The attention to detail in both the food and the service is truly commendable. Puja was attentive and knowledgeable, ensuring our glasses were never empty and our plates were always full.
In conclusion, Curry Gate offers a dining experience that is nothing short of spectacular. The exquisite flavors, impeccable service, and inviting ambiance make it a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic taste of Indian and Nepalese cuisine. Five stars are not enough to capture the brilliance of this culinary haven. Highly...
Read moreWow. I went there for the first time tonight and was blown away by the food quality, taste and friendliness of service. Let me preface by saying that I’m Indian, so I have a very high standard when it comes to South Asian food. Not only was I not disappointed, I can’t wait to go back.
PROS: This family-run business very much has a hole-in-the-wall look and feel to it. It’s primarily counter service (orders to go), but there are five tables available for dine-in. Prakash, the friendly guy at the counter taking orders and answering phone calls, also brought out the food. Despite its being exceptionally busy at peak Friday dinner time, there was only one other family dining in, so it did not feel crowded. Despite how busy he was, he checked on us several times to ensure that we enjoyed the food and that all was well with our dining experience. That level of friendliness was unexpected, but very appreciated. The food itself was outstanding. We ordered the chicken momos, chicken 65, bhindi masala, daal, roti, garlic naan. Everything was fantastic, flavors spot on, spice levels perfect.
CONS: Everything is served in styrofoam to go containers, plastic bags and plastic utensils (even for dine-in), so there is a tremendous amount of waste. While the menu options are plentiful, you won’t get South Indian food here.
I’m excited to return to try their specialties (butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, samosa). I’m also looking forward to their new restaurant on South Boulevard. Overall, I highly recommend Curry Gate for your North Indian/Nepalese fix. This place has some of the best North Indian food I have ever had outside of New...
Read moreI have been going to the South Boulevard location for years, but recently moved to uptown so this location is much more convenient. The quality is exactly the same. Excellent. When I first moved to Charlotte I tried 7-10 Indian restaurants in my first month or so, trying to establish my go to spot. Curry Gate is hands down the best Indian food in Charlotte.
Do not let the modest building fool you. Every curry I have tried is top tier. Whether you get paneer, lamb, goat, or chicken, it is all terrific. My go to order these days is Vindalu Lamb, spicy level 8 or 9. It is always delicious and is actually a pretty spicy dish. I don’t believe there is a dine in area here, if there is, it is very limited so plan for takeout. The service at the counter is always great and easy.
If there is any knock I could find it might be the naan. It is just a bit dry and doesn’t have much butter or garlic if you get those options. I had this issue at the South Boulevard location(which offered dine in), but their naan was significantly better when you ate in the restaurant as opposed to take out. It is not bad by any means and I still order it every time I come here. But that would be the only thing I could suggest improving upon.
Bottom line: if you haven’t gone to curry gate, go...
