Overall disappointed. My wife and I both got the DSBSsub with turkey. The cheese was to be melted, which it was. The problem was how it was melted. Essentially the cheese was put on the sub first and then microwaved. I say microwaved, because the bread was so tough (generally what happens when you microwave cheese and bread to melt it) my jaw was popping trying to chew it down. My wife just didnât bother with hers since the bread was stuck to the serving boat it came in (another good sign of microwaving bread and cheese to âmeltâ it). If it wasnât microwaved which I can only conclude based on my experience with food, and working food, then the bread was expired, and Iâm genuinely concerned why my wifeâs bread was stuck to paper tray it was placed in.
I ended up just dumping the insides of my sub in my paper boat and threw away the bread, and got her a plate to put her toppings in since the bread was inedible. Unfortunately not much cheese in our food since it was melted to the bread. The iceberg lettuce was mostly yellow (also disappointing as itâs a sign of trying to get every $ out of your food cost despite quality and presentation in food). It wouldnât be a big deal if the place didnât boast about its freshness and quality. The pasta salad portions were, incredibly disappointing too and not that good. Pasta salad had a sweet taste to it. I guess when itâs âCaliforniaâ style expect it to be sweet, which for me, was not appetizing.
I will say the food was served very quickly (so thatâs nice) and the staff was friendly. My food was to go, but from what I can see, the place was very clean. We made some modifications to the sub, which I was worried would cause the food to be made wrong, but it wasnât. So thatâs a nice + too.
Overall, not returning again. The cost to value ratio is just not there for us. For many it is there based on...
Read moreAn absolutely fabulous restaurant with incredible variety and quality! I couldn't decide between about five different sandwiches, and when I didn't like the recommended one (due to personal taste, it was a very well made 'wich), I was able to get the Reuben SO quickly, and hot dang is it a fantastic sandwich! The perfect amount of mustard and kraut and meaty deliciousness, perfectly toasted bread, and I loved both the power blend and herb slaw sides... which, the latter is so close to an actual German potato salad minus the potatoes, it's insane. Furthermore, the customer service was unsurpassable, and the space itself is very clean and well-maintained in music and atmosphere alike. Plus, who doesn't love $2 draft beers (every Thur!)? Overall I obviously can't say enough great things about this place, so check it out and definitely get the salted caramel brownie too because it just warmly melts in your mouth so sinfully perfectly......
Read moreWe ate a late lunch at Grouchoâs today. It was our first time in and we are not likely to go back. There were two other tables eating while we were there and a decent amount of to go orders but it took quite a while to get our food. We both got caprese sandwiches. I got mine on pumpernickel and the boss got hers on pita. We asked for them both pressed / warmed. Hers wasnât and mine was âwarmâ but not toasted so the high water content in the mozzarella made for some pretty soggy bread. They were out of basil as well so basically just mozzarella, tomatoes, and a little balsamic. Saving grace was the pickles - there were pretty good...and the sweet tea with pellet ice. Will probably just stop at pasta provisions if we want a caprese and are in...
