I called ahead to find out if they offered gluten free pizza and the girl on the phone said they did but that there was an upcharge on the gluten free crust. I asked her how much the Elizabeth pizza would cost with the gluten free crust and she told me $10.75, so I ordered two. I drove 15 minutes out of my way to pick up these pizzas and when I got there the same girl told me it would be $33. When I asked why it was so expensive, she told me there was a $4 additional charge on each pizza for the gluten free crust. I asked her why she had quoted me $10.95 on the phone and she said she had thought I was asking the regular price, even though I specifically asked the cost for gluten free. She never mentioned $4 at all during our phone call. She then called the manager over to tell me the same thing like I was stupid. What is the point of calling to find out the price if they're going to quote me the wrong price? The manager was annoyed and offered a $5 coupon, but since I was being charged $8 more than quoted I declined and left. I work in retail and understand that employees make mistakes, but when your employee admits they made a mistake and you don't fix it and take care of the customer then you don't deserve my business. I won't be back to Hawthorne's ever again with this...
Read moreLose the fancy box, and restore a proper ratio of sauce and cheese to the default 'pizza'. I really wish there was a Luigi's on this side of town, Hawthorne's needs the competition. Once in a while I feel like pizza. Usually I get Luigi's on the way home from Racquetball (work days). Today (Sunday) I decided to get a pie form Hawthorne's, usually a much better experience. Today was a disappointment. A $32 pie. I realized something was off as soon as I opened the box. The sauce seemed off center, the top crust seemed anemic. It's as if a cost cutting bean counter decided that the path to pizza profit is to limit each pie's sauce and cheese. Order was a large pie, sausage, olives (black) and green peppers, pickup. Was not busy. Just so lacking in the default 'pizza-ness' trifecta of crust, sauce and cheese mingling in that way that NY style does so well. Mostly because the sauce and cheese seemed to have been utterly forgotten. It was not all bad, the crust was better on the bottom side than the top would have one believe. Structurally, each slice had minimal tip sag (lack of sauce and cheese no doubt helped) . Toppings tasted fine. Next time I am gonna just the go the extra...
Read moreThis was our first time at Hawthorne's, because we have our "go to place" pizza place. Well, i was blown away by everything i tasted. First of all, the service was awesome. Our waiter (Carter), was very sweet and super helpful. She did a great job explaining how the pies worked and the different options. My wife went with the New Yorker Bar pie with ham. My mom went with the Luau pizza and i had to go big...i had the Meat Eater. Needless to say, the were all great. You could taste every ingredient and they tasted fresh (not frozen stuff). To end the evening, Carter suggested the Cookie Pie dessert. She didn't steer us wrong with that option. The size of it was the first hint that this was going to be epic. But then i tasted it and all was confirmed. The cookie was crunchy on the edges and soft in the middle. It was the right amount of "Chocolaty" and just enough dough to know it was a cookie. The ice cream definitely did its job as the perfect companion. Overall, my first experience at Hawthorne's will not be the last. Their service was great (thank you Carter and Brad!!) and the food was tasty, fresh and delicious. If you want good pizza, Hawthorne's is the...
