Went yesterday evening (Saturday) and sat at the corner of the bar close to the wall, as I always do when I come to this establishment. I was serviced by a heavy set, short, caucasian woman with short hair, a purple shirt, jean overall shorts and a rainbow hat. I could see that they were understaffed, so I remained patient for the time being as she was the only bartender and it was busy. I ordered a shot, a salad to go and also ended up ordering another shot before going to the restroom. I came back from the restroom to my seat and noticed that my drink was sat to the side, within my reach. I waited, and then I grabbed it because the bartender was busy and again it was close to me (within reach). She then comes over and asks me “not to grab things behind the bar.” I acknowledged that I understood her request and explained that “I didn’t know it was an issue as my drink was close in reach, I could see that she was overwhelmed with customers and that there was no malicious intent.”
Instead of leaving the conversation where it was and continuing her job she proceeds to speak to me disrespectfully as if I’m a child, in a chastising manner, stating that I “should know not to touch things on the bar, and that she was coming, etc.” I instantly lost my appetite and did not want the drink (which I did not touch) or food. I walked to the edge of the bar and requested to pay for the drink that I consumed so that I could leave. The bartender tried to make me pay for the extra drink that I did not consume and the salad which I refused and she yet again resorted to being disrespectful but with theatrics this time (loud, laughing, holding her head, pacing, causing a scene, etc.) slams the receipt on the bar in front of me and tells me that I “will pay for both drinks and that I need to go drink what she poured because she’s already taking the salad off.” Again, I refused, and requested to pay for the drink that I consumed only. I then asked to speak to a manager and she loudly tells me that she’s the manager at the moment, then proceeds to tell me that the “GM will be in at 5.” It’s about 4:30 at this time, I responded with “I will wait” and she responds with “go sit down and wait,” again speaking to me disrespectfully. While I’m waiting to see the GM a customer that was sitting at the bar offers to pay my tab and explains that he also felt that the bartender was rude. I thanked him and declined in which he paid it anyway. I finally spoke to the GM and on my way out another customer who was also at the bar that witnessed the occurrence commended me for remaining poised and also stated that the bartender was disrespectful and taking out her frustration on me.
I usually get great service when I come here, especially from a heavy set, tall, bald male that works the front bar; I believe his name is Jay (I could be wrong) his customer service is amazing! He’s manager material for sure! I’ve also been coming to this location for years as it was one of my favorite places to come to in NoDa. However, I won’t be coming back. This experience left a really bad taste...
Read moreFirst off, let me just say that Jackbeagles in one of my favorite places not only in NoDA, but in Charlotte in general. I have been going there since 2011 (I know, I should have been wrote a review) when I was in Grad school @ UNCC and been loving it EVER since. The vibe is 'dive-ish' without being dirty, grimy, nasty, unapologetically loyal to the regulars and excluding the new patrons, you know; HOW DIVE BARS USUALLY ARE, they are NOT. Also, I used to live literally on the same block as them for about 2 years and we got very acquainted with each other!
Pro-Tip: WHEN you go to Jackbeagles, you have to try their infamous JACK MAC & one of the many cheesesteaks they have. The Stugots! YUM!
Jackbeagles is nestled on the small strip in NoDA (north Davidson) with all of the other great establishments; just look for The Beagle. The institution contains a hook shaped bar (about 12-15 seats) where you can see into the kitchen; plenty of inside seating for small or large parties; an outside patio plus full bar with a cornucopia of outside seating and a full stage (with live bands + open mic and other great acts); AND, you can bring your loyal canine companion(s) (outside only)! SUPER DOG FRIENDLY!
THE STAFF IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I can go on & on about them. They always acknowledge customers respectfully and have some of the best service, 'PERIODT'.
Ok, whew, let's get to the burger (see attached photos). I went here for CLT Burger Week for THAT burger, which is the burger they serve ONLY during that week (but Jackbeagle's will still make it for you because they are that dope) and it did not disappoint. The Jack Mac Burger utilizes their legendary Jack Mack | crispy, salty, porky bacon, and to give it a southern twist, more gooey and slightly peppery pimento cheese. The burger was a succulent medium-rare, cooked to perfection, per usual, and better yet, it was $5! Just look @ the photos!! Hahaha! So good! I know your mouth has to be watering!
All in all, Jackbeagles is hand's down & up, side-to-side, diagonally, one of my favorite venues/restaurants in Charlotte. If you haven't been, get up & go. Trust me, you will be glad that you went there. I would give them more stars if I could.
Cheers...
Read moreThe experience was a nightmare and not just because of the 12-inch strain of hair in my food. I visited Jack Beagles and purchased veggie fries for my husband. The fries looked good but there was a mound of melted cheese on top that looked like it had been sitting out for a while(Cheese was hard ). As my Husband and I sat there chatting and eating he began to pull a long brown curly piece of hair out of his mouth (It was horrifying). The strain of hair seemed to go on forever. I have never seen a piece of hair so long in someone’s takeout. We prayed that the 12-inch strain was mine, however after further investigation we discovered it was not. The strain of hair was not my hair color, and it was also intertwined under a mound of cheese. I immediately wrapped the piece of hair in a napkin and headed back to Jack Beagles. I was infuriated and couldn’t understand how something like this could happen. I was first greeted by the bartender who was apologetic and took the piece of hair. I advised him that I would like to speak to management. I spoke with the night manager (Mel) who was inconsiderate of our experience. The first thing Mel asked me was “where did I get the fries from” which was a baffling question. I wasn’t sure if she was being rude of if she was under the influence of a substance. She began to tell me that no one in the establishment had long curly hair (I could clearly see there was) . This statement was repeated three times as if she was trying to convince me that the hair was mine (She never looked at the evidence wrapped in the napkin). I could feel my blood boiling. I stated to Mel I didn’t care who had long hair or how it got into my box and under the melted cheese. Mel did not offer a refund or offer to remake the food until I asked her what her name was and if there was another manager during the day. Once I spoke those words, she began to conduct herself in the proper manner. I did receive a refund however I will never be going back to...
