I had not been here in a year but it was the best I had ever tasted in Charlotte. So I go there on 6/7 order two oxtail dinners, curry goat dinner. These were the WORST I have ever had. The oxtail dinners were shredded meat (because it had been boiled to long) the rice and peas were scorched (you could smell it when you opened the container), the curry goat was instant high blood pressure and boiled to death. The oxtail gravy was water ( getting low on gravy throughout the day and simply continued adding water),the cabbage was bland and tasteless. I wanted everything in separate containers because I was buying lunch for my Jamaican employees that just arrived to the states two weeks ago. The RUDE lady told me that she couldn’t give me eight containers ( the ones that a slice of cake would come in) and I am going to spend almost a $100 dollars. So I said ok no problem can I just go to Family Dollar and buy some containers? Smart as she could with a no. Ok no problem. Black businesses need to do better. You want us to spend our money but you feel after you get a clientele base you can just give the customers anything and we should accept it. I have been a chef for 35 years (Jamaican food is not my specialty) and for the amount of money that I spent and the NASTY attitude towards me when I was nothing but nice and respectful you will never get a dime of my money ever. I was so embarrassed to give that to my employees and being from Jamaican they confirmed that it was HORRIBLE. I loved the food so much that my friend that works at a hotel asked me for the best oxtails and I recommended you guys and they posted it on their board for guests to see. I IMMEDIATELY called my friend and told her to take it down. If you want good Jamaican food I suggest you try Lawerence Caribean on the same street one...
Read moreYEESSSS! This is a true jamaican tuck shop.If you grew up knowing what that is then you know this place is the real deal. Authentic Jamaican food finally!
We drove over 40 mins to get to this place just on just a feeling I had. I was first interested in this place from one picture of the fried chicken with that kiss of orange color and was encouraged by the over 4.6 in google reviews. I dont try any restaurant in NC unless it 4.5.
Other Jamaican restaurants in the Charlotte area are stop gaps ( imitations) until you end up here for the first time. Everywhere else in NC we have been will be watered down versions of the real deal. The owners of those franchises probably leave work and come to this place for dinner.
There is not seating just order and takeout. Pro advice - call ahead for all pickup orders. This is as close to the best food place in Kingston I know you can get.
Dont worry about portion size or the meat quality just get the large size. Portions are large very hefty. Meat quality is so high I have not seen this in NY or FL. I think they only sell that plate size , as they should. Close your eyes and hand over the money because its worth it.
What I'll sign off on for the menu here that is also as close to Grandma level Sunday dinner worthy you can get-
Fried chicken with rice and peas and oxtail gravy , raw veg ( salad)
Oxtail with rice and peas and raw veg
Curry goat with rice and peas and raw veg.
If you want down home cooking this is it. Just one excellent chef making authentic Jamican food. Dont hesitate JA peeps this is it! Cant wait to try the escvovitch...
Read moreI recently traveled back to my hometown and had the pleasure of dining at K & J's Kitchen, a local Jamaican restaurant that served some of the most authentic and delicious Jamaican cuisine I have ever tasted. I ordered the oxtails with rice, beans, and cabbage, and I must say that the dish was cooked to perfection.
The owners of the restaurant are clearly passionate about their food and take great care in using only the freshest ingredients, which they prepare right before your eyes. The portions were colossal, and I definitely had enough for leftovers the next day.
One thing to note is that the restaurant is small and there is no seating in the waiting area, so it's best to call ahead so your food is ready to take out when you arrive. However, despite the limited space, the restaurant had warm and friendly vibes, which made for a delightful experience.
Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Jamaican cuisine. The oxtails were absolutely delicious, and I could tell that the owners put a lot of love and care into...
