1st time there after reading all the wonderful reviews, and will be the last time. Our server was HORRIBLE. I love to support local bussiness and decided to end a birthday celebration for my Husband with a nice brunch. We sat in the section with all the windows. There was a party of 6 already there waiting to place their order and a party of 2 gentlemen waiting to pay. A party of were seated shortly after us. Fast forward now 25 minutes later.. we were ALL still sitting there memorizing the menu by now, watching and waiting, while the tables sitting by the wall were getting their orders taken care of by another server. After seeing other tables getting service before us, my husband grabbed the attention of a man who walked by with drinks to another table who seemed to be a manager. He kindly brought our drinks and said he would get our server. Almost 10 minutes later, the server finally decided on a slow cameo entrance and graced us with her presence. She took our order and another table's 3 person order. The gentlemen trying to pay asked for the bill and with the enthusiasm of a sloth, she left and never came back with their bill. They ended getting up and going to the front to pay as they were complaining to the "manager" about the wait and lack of attention. The party of six was still waiting to be acknowledged which she never did. Fifteen minues later, she bring my husbands order out. 5 minutes later she brings me only half of my order. Then in a Slowpoke Rodriguez fashion, she continues to go back and foward with one plate a time, serving the third table with what she felt they should be eating and not what they ordered. In between the fiasco, i asked for syrup twice, and ended up asking the table next to us to use theirs. Also, someone for the party of 6 got up twice to seek service and someone other that our server finally decided to take their orders. 10 minutes later and after my husband finished his meal, she decided to bring the rest of my order along with the syrup that i no longer needed. By now, we had enough and were ready to go, so I did not eat it and took it home. I know this is an extremely difficult job, but being attentive goes a long was. This job is not for everyone, and this applies specialy to that young lady today. We understand it was busy, but her lack of concern and urgency did not help the situation. One of the gentlemen in the party of three was visible and verbally frustrated with the service and told me he has been coming here for 2 years, but after today, he was not coming anymore. Not a good way to leave a...
Read moreI had several bad experiences with Mary (server) who was frequently snappy, impatient and very rude to me (which was more than just one time). I started going to Maria's Grill on 2/5/2010, less that 3 months after moving here. But after my 6/30/2015 visit I could not take Mary's rudeness any more and decided not to go back. But 8 years later on 1/19/23 I decided to go back and try them again, hoping Mary had retired (she was still there and nasty as ever! SMH). So I tactfully tried avoiding her as my server. On my 10/12/23 visit for the first time I had some chicken was not good (first time I ever complained about the food) when I mentioned it to Maria (owner) and tried to explain to Maria how it tasted I used the words "old and dry" (oh Lord, you would have thought I cussed her out )! Maria became very defensive and insinuated that I should have come earlier (it was only 12:30pm) . I had to force her out of her A VERY INSINCERE and HALF-HEARTED apology! I have spent $1,511,53 at Mari's Grill over the years and that's what she gave me as a paying customer. I decided that 10/12/23 would be my last visit to Maria's grill! This lady was all smiles when I retured after 8 years but that fake smile finally disipated after a few visits. She takes her customers for granted which is arrogance and presumption since people many choices we have to dining out in Charlotte. I just might want to add that she needs to hire some african-americans to serve since that's where most of her...
Read moreIf you want a friendly place to visit for breakfast, you have to check out this place. This was our first time going. Some friends had recommended it a few months ago. We are so sorry we waited this long. It's a small restaurant located in a small shopping center. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting. We went on a Sunday around 11 a.m. We were lucky because there was only a 5 minute wait. Sundays are their busiest day. We were amazed at the low prices and large amounts of food. We had a wonderful server, Jayme. She attended to us as soon as we were seated and had an endearing personality. Those of you who follow me know I am a sweet tea snub. 😄 The sweet tea was excellent! My husband had black coffee. Before being served, we engaged in a conversation with the table next to us. It just so happened that the guy did Google reviews also. I would recommend that you follow him. He's listed under M Ruffin. They were visiting from Durham, NC, and it was also their first time. My husband had fried catfish and grits. The fish was so crispy. I had a cheese omelet, grits, and bacon. The grits were really good. You know it can be hit or miss with grits, but theirs was just right. We both had the big, fluffy biscuits. I spoke to the manager, as well as the owner, Maria. They've been there for about 15 years. She is such a humble and friendly person. She as well as the manager were bussing tables. We will definitely be back. This time during the week with or without friends. Keep up...
