My friend and I met up for a relaxed girls’ night dinner, and overall, it was a decent experience with a few highs and lows. We were seated right away, which was a great start. Our server came by immediately to take our order, but since we weren't ready, it took quite a while for her to return which was frustrating.
I ordered the cranberry grilled chicken salad, but swapped the grilled chicken for their homemade chicken salad, which came with a surprising $3 upcharge. That said, the salad itself was tasty, especially with the generous blue cheese crumbles. I opted for their homemade blue cheese dressing but it missed the mark. It was lacking that rich blue cheese flavor and not very creamy.
My friend also ordered a salad, but started with a bowl of their chicken and rice soup. I tried a bite, and it was actually quite good with a similar texture to egg drop soup and a light, creamy consistency that didn’t feel heavy.
The atmosphere was casual and diner-like, and we were able to sit and chat for a while without being disturbed. Checkout is done at the front, and they can split the check if needed, which is convenient. The space itself was clean and tidy, though every tabletop had noticeable peeling and damage, which made them seem like they weren't cleaned properly or thoroughly.
Overall, Parkway House is an average, no-frills local spot. It’s close to home, and I’d return if I’m in the mood for diner food without expecting anything...
Read moreParkway House, a family restaurant that has good reputation and good food, let's start with the downsides so I don't get you bored reading this review, wait time for Overall food is at least 45 to an hour, most likely for a group of 3 or more, and at least 25 to 30 (or more depending if you order a ton) for take out, there's little to no Waitresses, and they aren't always available, they do sometimes check on you but it's like they disappear right after, so make sure to really look at the menu and order everything that'd you'd like or you'll be waiting for a long time after finishing your meal for a cake that you'll probably take home anyways since it's been too long, now time for the good things! First, their food is amazing, but this depends on people's taste pallette, they've got a wide range of food for you to try out, from pizza, wings, burgers, to Chicken parmesan, lasagna and sandwiches!but that's not all they serve of course, they serve cakes like rainbow ones! It's a family friendly establishment, the waitresses give you a long time to think about what you'd like, you can enter with casual clothing and nobody would think much of it, it's in a plaza and right next to a very busy road but it's still always quiet and it has a older look but still beautiful, it's like sitting down at a big diner down in Long Beach, it's amazing and I recommend coming to amaze your taste buds, you'll give those buds a good...
Read moreThe food was okay, but I have to comment of the manner in which the Harris Blvd Charlotte restaurant was managed on Sunday afternoon. They had one waitress that was doing 85% of it all, servicing all tables, except 2 and busing the tables all by herself. I asked about additional help and she just smiled and kept racing around. I found out later that there was a manager on duty, yet that person elected to do little of nothing, except wrapping silverware and running the register.
I was part owner in a restaurant several years ago and I would have fired a Manager that thinks her job is to do as little as possible. You can't manage when you only have one waitstaff person, 12 to 15 tables filled and expect one person to service it alone. When you own or manage a restaurant, you must be willing to wait on customers, assist in the kitchen, even bus tables.
The young lady never said anything negitive, smiled and was very pleasant. I pray that she received all of the tips, because she was the only...
