Showmars Eastway — Restaurant in Charlotte

Had a really disappointing visit to Showmars tonight as I've loved this chain for over 20 years - still remember eating the burgers on pita when I was in high school.

Brought my two kids in (three years and seven months) along with the wife and we ordered our dinner - everything was going fine until my wife bit into an onion ring and pulled out a piece of metal that looked like a staple. We were obviously unhappy but glad it was an adult and not one of the kids.

I went to the front to tell the manager and his response was "are you guys OK? Are you hurt?" to which I said "No we're not hurt" and he looked at the metal thing and said "Yeah, it looks like this is a piece of the fryer basket. This has never happened before." Then we just kind of stared at each other for a few seconds before I said "OK well probably should take that basket out of the rotation." A few more seconds of staring and I awkwardly went back to my table.

The VERY nice older lady who was cleaning tables asked if the manager had done anything and when I responded no, she rolled her eyes and said "if you ask him, I bet he'll give you a refund."

I shouldn't need to ask for a refund (or hey, I worked in the service industry for years, offer me a free dessert or SOMETHING!) but I also should have gotten more of an apology and another check-in from the manager but he stayed away from us the rest of the time we sat in there.

Anyway, we won't be back which is a shame because I really like Showmars and this location is by our house. Guess we'll hit the one on 7th Street. Bite carefully at this...

Upon arrival, smell of dead rat walking up to door, met in foyer by a pan handler asking for money. Told worker inside who did nothing about it. Order clerk brand new and did not know how to take orders. Rang up incorrect food. Sat down at table to get food. Asked waitress for cookie that was not brought with food. She said I had to get it at counter after she asked if we needed anything. She was catering to a kiss up across the aisle. Finally got cookie and was ready to eat it. IT WAS BRICK HARD!!! I took it back and the same waitress said well that's how we serve them. We have to keep them in the freezer that's what our manager says we have to do. I ask, how is ANY person supposed to enjoy a ROCK HARD frozen cookie. These cookies are PREPACKAGED AND PRECOOKED! Just like you buy off the grocery store shelf. WHY IN GOD'S NAME ARE THEY PUTTING THEM IN THE FREEZER AT ALL!!!! I asked for the number to the district office. Of course they would not give it to me. The manager came out and said they keep the cookies in the freezer then put them in the refrigerator until they sell them. He told me I could go somewhere and find a microwave and that might soften them, but he did not have one and did not offer anything further. I literally was taken aback by this ENTIRE experience tonight. I hope administration from Showmars reads this or the Mecklenburg County Health Department one as something needs to...
