I have read so many negative reviews and to each' s own. I completely understand their taste, as I have my own likes, as well. But that will not result in me giving no less than the 5 stars this restaurant deserves.
To be honest, the tartar can be really heavy and I think it's too sweet, but my tummy sure ain't complaining. I do not mind spending $20-25 for food, especially when I know I'm not going to be disappointed. And with the food at the Skrimp Shack, you're not going to be disappointed. If the fish was hard/deep fried, you might like heavy salt and pepper in your coating, however, this recipe does not call for that. When eating seafood you want to taste the seafood in its natural state!
Now, everyone knows I love Catfish, so this is what I'm going to say: get rid of the spicy option, or just dial it down a bit. It overpowers the natural flavor of the fish, so much so, that you'll taste just the spiciness. Although it's really good, you still want that fish taste to come shining through.
Now let's get on to the regular Big Cat Sandwich...I uploaded a pic. Does that not look good? I'm telling you, it took all of 6 minutes to devour that thing. To anyone reading this, try it: Big Cat with lettuce, cheese, crab meat and pickles. Add the tartar up on there - and guess what - best fish sandwich in town... no cap!
Skrimp Shack also has the best chicken nuggets in town. You know how some places say they have chicken nuggets and they're junk? Not here. They're real chicken pieces, formed and coated with the best tasing breading ever. Try them.
I've never had a problem with service at the SkrimpShack. I believe you get what you give. I personally witnessed the cashier assist a customer with their order and explained everything of what would be included with the food, etc. Answered all of the customers questions - no grimacing, no attitude, no shrugs. NONE OF THAT like you get at other places.
I keep waiting for a Skrimp Shack to come to University.
Above all, it's a great atmosphere. The bathrooms are 100% clean, The employees are personable, the food is great.

Read moreThis is something I don't do enough of. Today I was so impressed with the professionalism of this young man, I'm guessing, who is in his early to mid twenties. I didn't get his name because the store was soooo busy. But I hope the store management reads the store reviews and will understand what that this young man was a great addition to his team. Fingers crossed they actually read their reviews. The store I went to is on Eastway. The time I was their was 4:11 pm and my ticket number is, 100760719. I was ordering dinner for me and my Mom. I called on the way to store and no answer. That was unusual. Any other time I would call in someone would answer. I get to the store and the place is, as I guessed, very busy! The young man is on the register. He's taking order's. Packing food and assisting the cook . The cook did step out once to let us know that it was just the two of them. He politely asked that we be patient and that they will get the food out as quickly as possible. They were both very professional. The young man stood out to me because I witnessed him in another challenging situation with customers at a McDonald's location. His cool calm demeanor is unusual for someone his age. I'm sure he has some very proud parents. They have done an absolutely amazing job raising him. Again, I don't do this very often, but our young black men and women need to know that they are appreciated. I truly appreciate him when I saw him at McDonald's and I appreciated his professionalism today. If he continues with his cool calm demeanor I can only imagine the things he will conquer in his life. I pray that God continues...
Read moreGood food over all. it's my second time visiting this location. I remember when the location was the police station. I totally forgot they turned it into the Skrimp Shack. One day I was craving a good fish sandwich outside of the place I normally visit. But anyway, I drove over about two weeks ago for the first time and picked up a Skrimp and Catfish Po' Boy with Mac & Cheese. Not bad at all. Catfish is my all time favorite type of fish, hands down. The size was decent and the temperature was good. Still hot when I got home, about 9 miles away. The taste and texture was as expected. Not like any other type of fish, so if you've never had catfish, I suggest you do try it once, to get an overall taste.
----Came back today Sept 17th for the regular catfish sandwich with M&C. This time they gave me tartar sauce. NOPE!
Not the food - the food was great!
The tartar sauce is too sweet. It has too much sugar in it. It sent chills to my brain. If it was kool-aid, it'd be a different story. The tartar should not overpower the fish/seafood. I know it's a manufactured product, but they need to "fix" the recipe. The next time I stop by, I'll tell them do not add tartar to the bag. I'll use bland tartar from the supermarket.
The restaurant is good, very clean inside, both times I have come. That's a good sign of good management and worker quality. If you've never been here, give it a try and...
