The highlights of this place were definitely Damian and Mederio, along with the food and drinks. Unfortunately, our overall impression of the vibe wasn’t great…twice. The first time, we walked in and the place was so silent and empty that I thought they were closed. The second time, a waitress accidentally spilled a full drink on me, completely ruining my hair and outfit.

That said, both times they went out of their way to ask what music we wanted to hear, checked in often to make sure we were enjoying our food and drinks, and treated us with genuine friendliness. Mejicali is definitely a Charlottesville gem! The tapas and cocktails have a unique twists on classic Mexican fare. Tequila selection is top notch! The atmosphere was everything you'd want in a trendy, laid-back spot—cool, with modern art on the walls, almost an art gallery crafted by the talented co-owner River Hawkins. Bartenders Carlos, John, and Nick are super friendly but also incredibly knowledgeable about the drinks and menu. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to enjoy great food, cocktails, and a cool vibe! Also their cheesesteak is hands down...

Very open space which can be good when not a lot of people, noisy when full. Service was great - attentive and very friendly across the board. Food was outstanding; every thing our group had was great! Known for their cocktails as well, drinks didn’t disappoint. The only concern is the wait time for food. Seems to be a disconnect between ordering and getting the food. Just opened so the kitchen is spot-on in terms of quality but might need some work in getting the food out.
