I have to give a shoutout to the great staff @ 1885 Grill in Ooltewah for the exceptional service, food prepared to perfection, and staying late just to accommodate us. (Thank you) This last Thursday was graduation for the new recruits from fire academy which we had a ceremony for them. After the ceremony my company station headed out to dinner to celebrate šŸ¾ and chose to eat at this upscale, modern, and southern coastal grill vibe restaurant. As we rolled up getting out of the fire truck šŸš’ parking was limited. So we parked in the back of the restaurant. As we all came around the tall two story brick building we could see the large open courtyard with seating with customers enjoying themselves. The two glass wooden doors to get into the restaurant were sold but easy to open. I go through the doors to see immediately to my right an open bar with a large walk through to the courtyard. Straight ahead a more private room for a more formal dining šŸ½ and left more tables. My attention was directed to the large bronze mermaid on the end of the staircase holding a large seashell with a round ball on top. The reception desk right next to it. I was greeted with a smile from a young lady and told them how many in our party. We are a bigger group but I was a very minimal wait to as the took is to the more formal dining room. We were seated and one server came to take care of all of us. She did an excellent job with the group and other staff helped serve us. I am gluten intolerant so I went for the wild salmon with mashed, potatoes, and cream corn. As you can see šŸ‘€ from the pictures the salmon was prepared with just the ingredients and cooked to perfection. The cream corn was in a bowl 🄣 and had excellent flavor that I really enjoyed that most don't add but they do. Excellent choice. The mashed potatoes šŸ„”were very creamy and thick with potatoe skins mixed in. These were diffently not instant potatoes but the real deal. After the amazing meal and I was full I went to explore the up stairs where I find another large open bar with a second story balcony to enjoy with tables and TV to watch sports on while enjoying a meal or drink. I highly recommend this restaurant for your next date, family outing, or just getting together with friend for the evening. Tell them I sent you. Cheers šŸ»

05/18/2024 Update: Revisited this establishment by request of management. The standard menu was available on this visit and images of our dinner are after the four from earlier review of Valentine's date. Denise ordered fried green tomatoes for an appetizer. Denise's entree of ribeye steak well done but was still a little juicy with baked potato with sour cream and butter, and simple salad. I ordered BBQ chicken thighs and drumsticks with Carolina Gold sauce on the side with baked potato same as Denise and a house salad. Our Waitress Kattie, General Mgr. Tara along with Front House Mgr. Megan visited our table to greet us with the best attitudes possible. and went above and beyond to see we had a wonderful time this visit. Our server told us that Tara even waived the cost of our entire meal. We were asked if we planned a dessert, but we felt satisfied without any. However, Megan brought out a strawberry brownie with whip cream and caramel plus vanilla bean ice cream on the side to tempt us. We did leave gratuity for the staff. Food was better, service was excellent, and atmosphere currently plain on the inside. 02/14/2024 - My wife and I had Valentine's dinner at 1885 grill in Ooltewah, Tennessee. We endured last available seating upstairs on outside balcony with clear plastic wrapped curtains, which did have heaters available but were not in use during our stay. We could have eaten at the bar which was not reserved. We shared appetizers which were delicious, deviled eggs with candied bacon sprinkles and fried zucchini fritters. However, my filet mignon ordered medium was chewy with little flavor. I did order the bearnaise sauce on the side. Fingerling potatoes and carrots were good. Of course, the shared dessert was red velvet brownie alamode. We considered this meal below par because of the entree not as tender as expected for the price and could not order other beef alternatives that day, we asked, like ribeye steak which my wife would have preferred.

I had dinner here with friends who highly recommended this restaurant. We ordered the fried green tomatoes and award winning wings. They were so good I forgot to snap pictures before we devoured them. Our server Kattie was nice and helpful when suggesting what sides were the best for our meals. I ordered their flounder dinner with collard greens and creamed corn. The flounder was lightly fried and it was tasted like I was eating a delicate fish. The way it was fried was perfect, not too crunchy but also not too soft that it fell apart. Their creamed corn came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. But their collard greens were everything I was looking for in taste. I wish I would have ordered an extra side of them just so I can take them home and eat them later. My husband had the 1885 burger and it was humongous but equally delicious. Our son had the kids hotdog and slice apples. The hot dog was a good portion for a three year old and he enjoyed the apples that came with the plate. Service again was great and the food was amazing. Restaurant was clean and spacious. They have an upstairs that we didn't explore but hope to the next time we come back.

Went here for our anniversary. Reserved online. Requested outdoor seating. Visited on a Thursday. Restaurant was not busy at all.

Pros: Were Seated Outdoors as requested. Was not charged for salad….which I ordered…which never came. Water was refilled several times.

Cons: Wife and I both ordered burgers. Both had so much char on them that you could not taste anything else. Mine was ordered medium well, so there was no excuse for this. A person other than our waitress placed our food on the table, and quickly rushed away, so there was no chance to make sure everything was correct. Ordered salad to come out with the meal. Salad never came. Waitress avoided us like the plague and never came to check how we were doing – so there was no opportunity to address the missing item. While outdoors, another guest at the restaurant asked if the outdoor fans could be turned on. This is all well and good – if the fans didn’t douse you with yesterday’s kitchen water. They have some water misting fans that spray you with water, and unfortunately the location we were sitting at got abused with water that got into everything. Our drinks, the napkins, the table, myself, everything was misted wet. I had to lean in the way of the passing waitress (ready to rush by us again) to ask if those could be turned off – at least the water, perhaps just the one by us. Or if not, then I would like to be moved to a seat indoors. To their credit, they turned the water off and left the fans on, but that is all that was done. They never offered to seat us inside or even asked if everything is ok. Water continued to drip out of the fans which occasionally would get propelled by the fan into the side of my head. When new waters (to drink) were brought out, one of the glasses we received had a piece of food on it from whoever the last person to use it was. Live entertainment arrived – which is all well and good – the wife and I were attempting to have a quiet peaceful dinner away from the chaos that is our multiple children, but at this point – fine. Oh, right, he started smoking less than 10 yards away from where we were seated.

In conclusion. Service: 0/10. We went to Cheesecake factory instead so we could get some un-wet and...

So this food was great!!! I am torn on a high review or a low review. As I was visiting I came to this location on 2 separate occasions because my 1st experience was amazing... from the food to the tatted server. She was quite informative of the menu and drinks. On the second location we sat upstairs at the bar... the bartender seemed to ignore us standing there waiting for the counter to be cleaned off. After we asked for her to clean her whole attitude had worsened.

We ordered drinks and she took on of the drinks to the kitchen for about 3 minutes... my friend asked why did she take the drink from eyesight to continue making it- the bartender could've simply explained that one of the ingredients (half and half) is in the fridge in the kitchen... instead she ignored my friend and pushed her the drink across the bar. My friend summoned the other polite bartender and she explained what happened and declined the drink and opted for something that could be made in front of her. The initial bartender was now furious with us.

She would not take our food order. We ordered through the other bartender. Our food came out looking good but we didn't have any silverware. We asked the original bartender for some silverware... she slammed down a towel and marched off down stairs as her lips whispered expletives. These !@#$%^&.... she came back a few minutes later slamming down silverware in front of each of us saying "I am classy, I would never poison a customer or put something in your drinks!!!". She grapped her purse and tips and said "I don't have time for this s#!+" Well that was not our assumption that she would do that. We were so embarrassed to the scene that she had caused towards us.

My friend simply wanted to know why her drinking glass was taken to the back in the middle of making a drink.

My food at this point was cold. The manager had my plate remade when I brought this to his attention. My food once again was excellent but the service this day leaves me torn on whether or not I would ever come back or refer.

The managers resolution was to comp my...
