I loved Ankar the first two times I went there. The meals were hot and delicious, while service remained friendly and fast. My husband and I figured we would be regulars after that point! The next time we went, we ordered the same thing we had the past two times. Unfortunately, our hummus was only a mere fraction of what it had been the previous two times, and the bread was hard. The rest of our food came out alright. The time after that, we went well before closing time (over an hour or two before hand), and while we could clearly see people inside with headsets on, no one ever answered the speaker. We drove to the window, no reply there either. Yet another time we came, because the hummus is delicious, and we got the same measley portion that did not compare to the first two times we went, a long with hard bread. We did go back to Ankar's one last time after that, and only bought hummus and onion rings. While we still received a less than satisfactory portion of hummus for it's price, our bread wasn't brick hard, and the onion rings were hot and tasty, even though they seemed slightly burnt. We tried to love you Ankar's, and we did at time, but y'all did us dirty on that hummus and broke...
Read moreGreat gyros and falafel. The location on Brainerd has better gyros than the one on hwy 58 for some reason, but the food is very good and staff is always friendly and helpful.
UPDATE: I'm genuinely embarrassed for the owners of this restaurant serving food that is this poor. We ordered a Falafel Ryder and a Gyro with extra Tiziki sauce on the side. No tiziki sauce on the side and the falafel was so dry it was inedible. The gyro had what looked like a cheap version of steak-sums for meat swimming in tiziki. Now I know where our extra side of tiziki went. I've started playing a little game guessing how long before a restaurant goes out of business. My prediction is this one doesn't stand a chance to make it past this year unless they right the ship. There's no way the owner could have been on site when this order went out. It's a shame they will lose their business due to absentee owner syndrome. Owners who trust their businesses to others rather than running...
Read moreWe're on a quest to find the perfect Gyro (Greek sandwich) in Chattanooga and we came closer at Ankar's. The meat is absolutely the most flavorful and tender I've had anywhere. It is served with grilled onions, tomatoes and Tazinki sauce, sprinkled with what I thought may be oregano. It is served in pita bread, which I will say may have been a tad bit better if it were grilled. My husband had the chili, which was thick and loaded with meat. He said the flavor was excellent. The onion rings were very hot and crispy with thick slices of onion. When you enter the building, the first thing you will notice is the decor is dated, but then it will strike you that this is one of the cleanest restaurants you will walk into. We were there just after the height of the lunch rush and the tables were gleaming and floors spotless. I look forward to returning to try one of...
