At a glance, atmosphere is what you'd expect from a little local (not quite dive) bar. The tables are packed in, so there isn't a lot of room to maneuver, but the patio seemed to be comfy for lounging (as evidenced by the group that was using it for that purpose the entire time we were there, and beyond). Everything was clean though, including the restrooms.
Service was slow, but they were very clearly understaffed (so not a critique on the ACTUAL server, who was friendly but spread way too thin). We were actually considering leaving before we ordered, since the family was hungry before we walked in and it was taking so long, but the server reassured us that the kitchen was more caught up than she was behind the bar.
In the end, we were glad we stayed. We had two versions of fish taco (fried and tuna) and both were excellent --well filled, cooked properly, and really flavorful. The wasabi hiding in the tuna taco was a great surprise. Dessert, however, was less impressive. The bread pudding was....okay. The "icing", which seemed to be the main source of sweetness and flavor, seemed to comprise solely of butter, cinnamon, and a copious amount of white sugar that was still gritty. It was edible, but only just (I was the only one out of a table of three that was willing to eat what was intended to be a shared plate).
Overall, it's definitely worth a visit, and we'll definitely be going back...just going to time it better and...
Read moreBeing hungry for lunch at 11am has its advantages by figuring that opening time would mean a place wouldn't be busy was a good call as we found Busky's with just a few other diners. Hubby found the special of sausage, beans and rice appealing and I went with the chicken quesadilla. Hubby likes collards but I don't eat them so I don't cook them either so if he sees them on a menu somewhere I know immediately he's going to pick them as a side, which is just what he did. He said they were quite tasty for a restaurant.
Hubby couldn't stop eating his beans and rice. The sausage portion was huge and grilled open faced-which is how he loves it. He was quite impressed and mentioned to me that we need to stop in here more often. And I would have to agree.
Since the pandemic it has been really hard to find a good quesadilla anywhere so when I saw one on the menu I knew immediately it would be my lunch. The shredded chicken was plentiful and full of flavor. It came on a green flour 'dilla with mixed melted cheddar cheese and sautéed onions and peppers. Y'all, there was so much chicken I could have made another quesadilla. I asked for sour cream on the side and got it without having to remind our server. Since my 'dilla didn't come with a side I ordered some fries. They come coated and in a basket. There were so many that both of us ate from the basket and I still had leftovers!!
We loved our 1st visit here & can't...
Read moreThis place is like going to the opening scene of Bar Rescue. The person behind the bar is carrying paper tickets for orders and empty bottles and new bottles all at the same time while trying to juggle who to give drinks to and completely overwhelmed. Their card reader to pay hasn't worked the past three times I've been there (spread over about 3 months) so I had to go to the ATM to get cash to pay again, which at this point makes it seem questionable what's going on and how they are handling money at this place. The people working there were nice so it's not a knock on them, but whoever is running this establishment needs to really invest in their operations so the workers have the tools necessary to do their jobs. I saw what looked like 20 paper tickets laid out across the bar in front of customers to try to keep track of orders. The employees were working with what they had and didn't complain but it was easy to see they needed help with systems in place that would make their job and my experience a lot easier and better. I've never ordered food here because of the chaos just ordering a drink creates. It has potential to be a great spot and you can tell it has locals that frequent it because of the friendly staff, just needs that investment of efficiency from owners to...
