Island Jerk Hut — Restaurant in Chesapeake

I had a wonderful experience at Island Jerk Hut!! Such a beautiful establishment with a wide open dinning area. It was super clean. The service was fast and quite personable. The staff was kind and knowledgeable. I ordered 2 large jerk chicken meals, one dark and one white. I got cabbage, mac/cheese and rice/peas with the meals. I also got two meat sides, one dark and one white. This was my first time dinning with them and I got the food to go. When my order came up the lovely young man opened the container and showed me the food and I was impressed! The portion sizes were not skimpy at all. Everything looked delicious and the presentation was on point. That was all before tasting anything. The food was amazing!! The meat was super flavorful, a bit sweet and a bit spicy. The dark meat was so juicy and honestly I was impressed by the white meat as well, as breast tend to be on the drier side, NOT OVER HERE! The cabbage was delicious and not overcooked. The mac was great as well. The rice and peas were a great base. And it didn't feel like all rice, no meat. I honestly did not need the sides of meat, however later me will be very pleased that there are leftovers. Everything paired together PERFECTLY. All of that to say that Rich and the crew at Island Jerk Hut will continue to get my money. I must start this review by saying, I once really enjoyed this place. I have heavily considered catering options. However, the customer service is unpredictable, depending on who you are served by. It is clear that a significant amount of employees are shuffled through as cashiers. Cashiers serve as the first impression of service, so their customers service is important to any business. Today was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I entered the restaurant and was glad that no one was in line. As I approached the cashier she told me to give her a moment. She then proceeded to take an order over the phone. I waited patiently for 6 mins as she took the order over the phone. Once she finished the order she asked me, “what can I get you”? By this point I was frustrated with the service I received and the wait. Strangely enough, I waited awhile for my food. People that came after me were served before me and left before me. I noticed this but still waited patiently. I waited so long that I decided to get up and ask how much longer my food would be. As I was walking to the counter I noticed that my food was coming out. I decided to let the matter be, except the same cashier that had originally served me, decided to still be nasty to me. By the end of my visit, I was already greatly affected by the disappointment. I was very disappointed yesterday, drove all the way to VA from NC for Caribbean food.. Got here and place several orders which we do for us and other family members who also love this place. Our regular lady at the front was not there but that was fine.. We ordered and part of the orders were getting beef patties that were going to take ten to fifteen minutes more to bake. 45 minutes later we have all our food, but the patties; 5 people at this point are waiting for patties and they kept saying 5 mins. We finally had to ask for our money back for the patties since we had been waiting for over 45 mins got home and the patties that I did get from my order were chicken. Now I don't want to complain but we and 4 others were lied to about when the patties were going to be ready we were not happy waiting for food that should have been ready if you know you're busy on a Saturday and no one tried to offer a drink or accommodate with other options. Got back home cabbage was unseasoned and the service was not acceptable. I will continue to patronize this spot because everyone sometimes have an off day well yesterday was it for us. Suggestions when you have customers waiting for more than 20 minutes for food that should already be cooked offer other options. Eating out is expensive and people want great customer service which we did not...
