NGL, it was my first pupusa. WHY and HOW you ask? Same homie 🤷🏻♀️😅
But my life was drastically changed when I pulled up at Military Circle and found this gem of a restaurant. We are the only non-hispanic patrons. I say that's a good sign 🤭
We started of with Agua Frescas. I got Maracuya (Passion Fruit) my friend got Tamarindo. She said hers was great. Mine was nothing short of amazing. It reminded me of those Del Monte juice I drank growing up. But way better. 🥙
Oh right, pupusas. It's like a pita, flatbread and naan all rolled into one. An El Salvadorian staple made with cornmeal. I got the mixed (chicharrón, refried beans and cheese) chicken and zucchini. It came with a side of curtido pickled slaw and salsa.
There was silence as we ate our food. It was everything I wanted. I also tried the Loroco (edible herb) pupusa and that was something I didn't know I wanted.
It seems like it's not a lot, but it was plenty.
On my next visit, I will try their fried chicken and Sopa de res...
Read moreThis was unexpectedly lovely. They had staff that spoke English as well as Spanish. It was slightly informal with a just sit where you want. It's almost got a vibe of amazing taco truck moved inside, and I mean that in the best of ways.
There were so many things on the menu, that it was hard to decide for a first visit!
There were items on the menu that didn't have an English translation because there isn't a word to use, but don't be afraid to ask! I decided to have an agua frescas that I had never heard of (I forget what it was now but Google said it was supposed to be a similar taste to persimmons) as well as pupusas with a cooked flower I was unfamiliar with. They did not disappoint!
My other half had a burrito and said the beans were some of the best he's had and he may was flavored differently, but just as amazing, as the Mexican places.
We will definitely be coming back to this little place with food from El Salvador. I can't wait to try...
Read moreAbsolutely delicious! We tried Lucita’s Pupuseria last night and were blown away. The chicharrón and yuca fries were crispy and fresh, and their salsa had the perfect balance of flavor and spice. I had the mixed pupusas—super fresh with cheesy, meaty goodness in every bite. My friends got the Pupusa Loca and wow... it was massive and packed with flavor!
To top it off, their agua frescas were super refreshing and perfect to cool down.
Funny enough, they showed up in our office parking lot today—so of course I had to go back! This time I got the Cali burrito and carne asada tacos. Everything was just as good as the night before. The tacos were made with handmade tortillas, and the carne asada had amazing flavor.
Highly recommend—this place is a must-try whether it’s your first visit or your second in...
