Rancho Grande — Restaurant in Chesapeake

Will NEVER go there again. First and LAST time! We decided to try a new Mexican Restaurant last night. My husband ordered chimichangas and I ordered a burrito loco. The service was slow, but the real problem came when the waiter brought out the meal. He gave my husband his chmichangas with a side dish of lettuce, sour cream, & guacamole. He gave me a side dish of lettuce, sour cream, & guacamole. He said my burrito loco would be right out. I told my husband to go ahead and eat so his wouldn't get cold. Waited and waited and waited and waited some more!! But no meal. Our waiter came by, "Do you need anything?". I said, "My meal!". He said, "Your chicken is grilled. It takes longer. It should be right out". Another waiter comes by and pours water and I get the same response "should be right out". A female comes by, "your burrito loco will be right out." After about 15 min. of waiting, I got my dinner and my husband had nearly eaten his whole dinner. I complained to the waiter that I have never gone to a restaurant and your meal is brought out at a different times. He said, "Yours was grilled chicken and it takes longer. His was shredded". The female came by again and I said that I wanted to see a manager. She said that he is off and she was the assistant manager. I told her this was the absolute worst service I can remember. Once again I am told that is because my chicken was grilled! I told her I've watched my husband eat 3/4 of his meal and I get mine 15 min. later! She told me when we paid she'd give me a discount. Yeah.......a whole 10%. The food was nothing special. If you never go there, you haven't missed a thing! I would NOT recommend this place to anyone unless you don't have a problem with getting your meals at different times and sitting and watching the other people eat! HORRIBLE SERVICE! HATED...

Usually when given the chance, I opt for a compliment sandwich as to soften the blow of my critique. In this case, I fear this may not be possible. On one hand, the server was moderately attentive. Not nearly the attentiveness one has come to expect from most eating establishments, but attentive nonetheless. The waiter made his appearance a few times, mainly to take our order, and to inquire about the food. But beyond that, it might as well had been as though he didn't care.

But that pales in comparison to the food. To begin, the salsa has nothing resembling flavour beyond a bit of stewed tomato with some cilantro mixed in. It was much as though the tomato mix sat next to a picture of salsa in modest attempt to show some form of connection. And that, is giving it far too much credit.

And then the meal arrived. My wife ordered fajitas, which were not more than a tasteless mass of greasy vegetables with a sinewy collection of meat in the middle. I ordered chile verde, which was only a parse better in that the salsa verde added a splash of salt. The refried beans and rice were similarly disappointing. I truly was not aware of how disappointed I could be when tasting this food. Bland does not begin to describe the dishes offered here.

To sum it up: Nothing will ever bring us to enter the doors of this...

I wish I could rate them higher because their customer service is EXCEPTIONAL!! However, the food for my taste lacked seasoning and the entrée I ordered was not very authentic. I’m giving them 3 stars because it was very clean, the ambiance definitely had a Mexican vibe - (Mexican music), and the customer service was outstanding! The waiter was very accommodating with the food options, but the food was just not that great. I ordered a lunch special with a Chile relleno and a taco. I was able to get a soft corn tortilla instead of a crunchy shell. It had ground beef and tasted like Taco Bell. The chille relleno - authentic Mexican stuffed pepper, usually stuffed with cheese and coated in egg. Was not stuffed nor coated with egg. It was served plain with enchilada sauce and cheese on top. The rice was cooked well, but was very bland. I thought I would be able to balance with the beans, but they were bland too!! I was disappointed in the food, but I won’t ditch them quite yet. I’m going to give them another shot and try something else…and ask for...
