Taqueria La Patrona - Grassfield — Restaurant in Chesapeake

Very underwhelming. The good, the place looks nice and fresh and has a cool vibe. The bad, literally everything else. I went there the other night with my wife for a date. When we first walked in, it took them a long time to seat us and the hostess was frazzled that the party in front of us had 9 people (mostly kids). She mentioned that it was going to back the kitchen up and slow everyone else down and made sure us and the party behind us knew that. The place was busy but not packed and there was plenty of tables but still took about 10 mins just to sit. We ordered drinks and our food at the same time because we had a feeling the service wasn’t going to be stellar after what the hostess said. It took 40 mins just to get our bar drinks. My drink order was wrong and I was up-charged for the bigger size that I didn’t order. My wife’s got a jumbo margarita and it was so terrible. I ordered a peach daiquiri that had zero peach flavor at all and was terrible. The food came another 30-40 mins after our bar drinks and our server never checked on us. For food we ordered guac and nachos, the guac was good and was a good size. I will say the guac did come about 20 mins in and it was nice to have something to eat. After almost an hour and a half though, we had eaten most of the guac and we weren’t real hungry when our nachos came out. The nachos were average at best, nothing to write home about. The tortilla chips were oddly thick, never seen chips that think at a Mexican place and they were just okay. By time we left there it had been over 2 hours, pushing 3. Absolutely terrible drinks and service. Two drinks, guac and nachos were $70 before tip. First and last time...

So glad they chose to add this location in Grassfield. If you live in Grassfield you know there are not that many choices to eat out, this is a great addition to our neighborhood. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and well thought out. The menu is the same great menu as their other locations. I used to drive 20-30mins to eat at this chain, rather than the ones closer to home, just for their authentic mexican dishes (yes the food is that good). The service here is top notch and the food is even better. They have only been open a week and I have already dined in or out 5 times, every single time the food was fresh and very flavorful. The create your own combo is very reasonably priced and that is my go to meal. In fact the whole menu is reasonably priced and I can see them really cornering the market with Mexican food in Grassfield. Please be patient as they are still training new staff and getting their feet wet here at this new location. Welcome to the neighborhood, I hope Grassfield treats...

I was very excited to try out this new spot though i have been to the one on Lynnhaven so i came here with high expectations which caused me to end up disappointed 🫠, attention wise they are very attentive but with no desire to serve you . Our waiter needed to be asked to refill our waters which we drank before even getting the food . Somewhere in translation of locations they left the seasonings in VA beach because the food is eatable but very bland and drenched in grease . Before even leaving the restaurant a stomachache was starting to affect me . Ive been to the other location enough to have a standard of what to expect and it was missed by a mile . Looks great but if that same effort was diverted towards service and the attention to detail this place would be amazing . Drinks were great at least . PS the females bathroom doesnt flush (my companion's observation) looking forward to seeing changes implemented . According to other reviews this experience is a common...
