The Bypass 168 — Restaurant in Chesapeake

Was rolling up to Target at Edinburgh North in Chesapeake and made an impulse decision to stop and grab a bite to eat (based on Yelp reviews). We got in just before they stopped serving customers. The welcome was a little underwhelming, when the first thing the waitress told us was that they closed at 7:00 p.m., so we only had 30 minutes to eat. Okay.... We watched 3 different groups get turned away just minutes after we arrived. I wonder if the owner is aware of the potential business they are losing in this tough time for all restaurants.

Regardless, my wife ordered a gin & tonic (last call is at 6:30 p.m.) and the crabcakes meal (she opted for a baked potato as her side). I ordered their cheeseburger with fries. Our meals were very good and convinced me to come back at another time, when we had more time to have a relaxed meal. The waitress was attentive and checked on us several times. When she asked if we wanted dessert, my wife ordered their strawberry cake to go. It was all very much homemade. The dessert was delicious!

This is a little bar & grill, casual ambience, and they seem to comply strictly with COVID restrictions. Everyone was spread out and the areas were cleaned thoroughly after each group left. We will...

Customer service was a disappointment. We felt stereotyped. The wait to order food was long and we were never told what the specials were. After I later heard our waitress tell the newer tables the specials. I'm sure our waitress saw the small food container my daughter brought in. My daughter was asked to put away food that she brought in to eat after my husband and I ordered dinner. Without asking why we brought the food in to begin with we were just told NO OUTSIDE FOOD ALLOWED PERIOD. My daughter had her wisdom teeth extracted yesterday so there are limited options available for her to eat at this time and she is vegan. After reviewing their menu online before heading there she decided she would just rather bring a small something to eat. We won't be returning. The food that my husband and I ordered was good. This is a crazy policy. My daughter waitresses in another restaurant and states this happens often where she works when people come in with certain food allergies and families that have small children. I am afraid they are trying to limit their customers to eliminate families...

I ordered crab dip and mozzarella balls. I started on the mozzarella and the waitress came over and asked if everything was ok but it tasted disgusting. I told her it didn’t taste that great and the marinara ice cold. She started to become irate “ what do you mean??? I made it just like it said to make it!! She took one of my mozzarella balls out of my bowl and opened it with her bare hands!!! It must be your taste buds because it isn’t our food!!”

I said ma’am did you or did you not ask me how the food tasted, And was I OK??? She said yes I asked you. I said OK so let me respond without you picking through my food and ripping it apart. Literally I said forget it I’ll take the check I paid and I left.
