Note to self, order from the kid's menu next time.
The man loves, loves, loves this place (did I mention how much he loves the egg?) so when he asked me last night if I would get up early to join him for breakfast I said sure! Normally he goes with his friends or my dad when he is visiting but there aren't any visits in his future so, taking one for the team I set my alarm for 6am. It was not a good beginning. Typically I only want to be awake at that hour for bass fishing and I was pretty cranky about having to be awake. Breakfast or not.
We managed to get there at 4 minutes after opening and pretty much found a sparsely occupied diner. We managed to have our choice of tables and selected the first booth on the left from the entrance. Initially, this was a great spot. Til the sun started to rise. My husband is a fair skinned red head so he burns fairly easy and once I saw there was an issue, I looked up for blinds. There are none. It wasn't just my husband that was bothered as I noticed the guy across from us at the half half table wearing shades. This alone is the sole reason for dropping a star. Sun shades would go a long way.
I have never been here so I attempted to decide on my meal the night before but there were just too many pictures on their Yelp to help me so I free for alled it and waited til we got in there. I was immediately drawn to the Upside down pineapple pancakes. I must warn you, if you choose this meal, GO HUNGRY! It is ALOT of food! You get 2 pineapple infused, whipped cream topped with a cherry pancakes, 2 eggs your way, 2 meats of your choosing and hashbrowns (shredded or cubed). I had scrambled eggs with cheddar, 2 pork links (they had a phenomenal flavor) and cubed hashbrowns. Everything was so dang good I finally understood why the man and everyone else loves coming here. The pancakes are the size of your plate, they don't require butter or syrup, they're very light and fluffy and the pineapples were a nice surprise. The man ate every morsel on his plate but I was not so lucky. I got through a 1/4th and brought the rest home for a snack after my nap.
I'm not sure I'll ever commit to another early morning meal but my first experience here was a very pleasant and delectable one.
Oh, I had a half off bellini too and our ticket was a very reasonable $35 bucks.
The staff are all pleasant and we had a great visit!
Update- 3/7/21- Y'all, I tried a new menu item (banana nut bread French toast) and it was beyond compare! I didn't expect it to be so light! The bourbon caramel sauce and vanilla creme was perfect!! If you see it on the menu, definitely give it a try as it's delectable.
April 2024 Easter had me trying their version of a western burger. While it was cooked per req, I felt like there wasn't enough BBQ sauce or cheese & bacon not cooked long enough for me. This is the 1st menu item I've tried that wasn't good. Our server did mention the chefs were all on their initial weekend. It was ok, just not up to TEB snuff. Courthouse Cafe & Top Golf had a superior western. Oh, my current favorite is the chicken fried steak. That one is...
Read moreI am a Virginia native. Me and my family and friends frequent this restaurant and normally have a pleasant experience. In Saturday morning, 10/5/24 around 11 AM me and my friends came here for brunch. It was our waitresses birthday as she had on a birthday sash. My friends and I ordered drinks and then we were ready to order food. I normally never ever have any trouble modifying any meal to accommodate me but for whatever reason today was different. I wanted to try something new, so I elected the “2up2down” menu item. I noticed that the chicken that it came with was tossed in hot sauce. So I politely asked the waitress could I have the hot sauce on the side and she respectfully declined and said “No because that’s just the way the meal is made”. So I said okay & waited a minute - because we had already taken a while to decide and I had my mind set on this particular item (Girl Things). So I asked instead of taking off the hot sauce, could you just not stack the chicken on top of my French toast as I don’t want my Cinnamon French Toast drenched in hot sauce, I would prefer it to be plated separately. She again told me no and that I could order a meal of French toast and a meal of chicken and create the meal I was asking for. So I obviously was annoyed at this point because what you’re asking me to do is not only double the price but exactly what I’m asking YOU to do with the same meal you’re telling me can’t be accommodated. So at this point we’re going back and forth and my friend tries to talk me down but I’m so annoyed and lose my appetite and decide not to eat anything at all. So my friends are trying to convince me to eat and I’m voicing my frustration with the entire situation as the waitress continues to stand there and insert her opinion. So I turned to her and said “you don’t have to keep repeating the same thing, I heard you the first time, but I can still speak to my friends”. So I didn’t eat - as were leaving another waitress compliments my attire and tells me I’m pretty. I say thank you and ask her how long she’s been working here - she says about 2.5 years. So i asked her the same question I asked our waitress - is it at all possible and she said YES. it’s a very simple ask that takes 2 seconds. So once I told her about our dialect and I didn’t eat she was so apologetic and said next time to ask for management because it can for sure be done but I didn’t want to make a scene on her birthday. Idk if it was because the gratuity is included that she wanted to upcharge me or what but I would have likely tipped her well as I do fairly well for myself and my spouse is fairly known AND it was her birthday! Like I would have OVERtipped - in fact I STILL tipped on a mimosa flight even after the poor experience. I’m not giving up on Egg Bistro but I’m for sure hoping I never have that waitress again. If you don’t know - okay ASK but don’t shut me down because...
Read moreI have been to the Haygood location multiple times and have had great experiences each time. This was my first time at the Kempsville location and I must say that I am very disappointed with the experience. It was a busy day, so I understood the wait time and had no issue with it. What I did have an issue with is after my party of 2 was seated, it took at least an additional 30 minutes before the server came to take our drink order. Again, I say ok....no problem, they are still pretty busy so I get it. However, this started to become an issue when I noticed more time had gone by in between the time that David made it back to our table to take our food order or to check in on us and it took even longer for our food to come out. I noticed literally that there were other parties who were seated after my party who had already gotten their food, had eaten and were getting ready to get up to leave prior to us getting our food (David was serving a few of these other parties that were seated after us as well) which really upset me, which by this time, the crowd had slowed down. All of this to say that the service was not great. Also, the food that I ordered was subpar which surprised me. Lastly, I ordered something that I didn't quite like the taste of and the manager pointed out to me that per their new policy (which is posted on the menu.....which I overlooked) that if you order a food item or drink and it is made to spec, you cannot return it (to cut down on cost of waste with the increased flux of food pricing.......I'm paraphrasing this). I understand which is why I didn't make a big fuss and I am only mentioning this to say that if you are in the mood to try something new, be sure that you really want it because you cannot return it once it's made and brought...
