This is a great city park to get out and do activities. I didn't walk/drive the entire park. As I entered, I went to the right of the park, so that is what my review is based on
Dog Park - one smaller fenced in area and a separate larger ones to really let dogs run. There are water fountains but not any structures for dogs to play/run on so I would suggest bringing a ball or toys to play with.
Workout area - there's a spot that promotes physical activity. It has a non-motorized stepper, parallel bars, steps, ladders, etc ... And panels with workout suggestions
Skate park- great fenced in skate park area with a variety of ramps. I saw skateboards, bikes, and scooters enjoying it. Thought it was nice that a bench was also there in case parents/friends wanted to accompany
Walking path - circular path that looks like it may be a 1 mile loop. I didn't walk the entire thing but noticed the stickers along the way
Bathrooms - the bathrooms are NOT porta-potties so that is a bonus. I didn't enter but ppl I was with did and said there were a decent number of stalls and seemed clean for a public restroom
Water - for some reason I was under the impression there was a body of water at this park. The water I did see was off to the side of the dog park but not much of a feature to enjoy, I believe it may just be a runoff pond
Other - there is a large stage, where I believe they have concerts. And several shelter/picnic areas that I imagine...
Read more4th of July...but on the 3rd and it was GREAT!!! This review is based on execution of a 4th of July event on the 3rd of July and not the whole park necessarily. The genius idea to do 4th of July on the 3rd was just that genius.
The parking was coordinated like a fine-tune machine and I've never had such an easy time getting in and out of a city park or city following a large event like this. It was a master class in doing it right. Literally took us only a few minutes to get to the car and we were out of the park and on the interstate within 10 minutes. A new world record!!!
The setup was really great and the only downsides to the event was not having enough food trucks and a better sound system for the performers. There is no alcohol at this event so there really was a shortage of idiots and it was a great family event. On top of that the fact that it was on the 3rd of July he didn't have a bunch of idiots firing their guns in a celebratory fashion into the air resulting in a much safer environment overall.
4th of July this year fell on a Friday which would have only compounded the celebratory gunfire and number of drunks that could have potentially been out so for the Chesapeake Parks and Rec to plan this on the 3rd was a stroke of Genius and very well executed and probably the safest 4th of July event in Hampton Roads in recent...
