Union Taco: More Ambiance Than Flavor â My Underwhelming Two Cents... My two visits to Union Taco have left me consistently underwhelmed, leading me to conclude that its popularity seems to stem more from its lively atmosphere than the food itself. While the place certainly has a buzzing energy, when it comes to the tacos, Union Taco unfortunately falls flat. On both occasions, I found the food to be largely forgettable. The tacos, while presented nicely, lacked any real punch or memorable flavor. The proteins, whether it was the chicken or the pork, tasted rather bland and lacked the distinct seasoning or char that elevates a good taco. The tortillas themselves were fine, but nothing special â just a vehicle for fillings that didn't excite the palate. Even the salsas and toppings seemed to miss the mark, offering more in the way of mild adornment than vibrant flavor boosts. It felt like they were playing it safe, resulting in dishes that were edible but utterly uninspired. The strongest asset Union Taco possesses is undoubtedly its ambiance. The decor is trendy, the music is good, and it's clearly a popular spot for socializing. If you're looking for a lively place to grab a drink and chat with friends, it fits the bill. However, if you're going primarily for the food, as I was, you're likely to be disappointed. In a city with a growing and vibrant food scene, especially when it comes to diverse and flavorful tacos, Union Taco just doesn't measure up on the culinary front. Itâs a place that seems to prioritize the "vibe" over the actual taste, and for that reason, it only warrants two stars in my book. You can certainly find better...
Read moreWe had lunch at the all new Union Taco at Summit Pointe in the heart of Chesapeake. This is a fantastic place to enjoy a wonderful meal.
They are an urban take on a classic taqueria. They are not authentic Mexican cuisine, if you are looking for that, go somewhere else. They are serving up great quality food at reasonable prices. I absolutely love the Birria Tacos and Iâll put them up against any others in the area. They slow cook the beef until it is tender and delicious. You can practically drink the consummate (and I have) because itâs just that good.
The Queso Fundito is amazing. Itâs served piping hot, so itâs best to let it cool a bit before you dig in.
The staff here is very well trained, accommodating, friendly and helpful with menu questions and suggestions.
I usually have a fairly standard rule that I donât go to places that have recently opened because it takes time to learn the systems and also to train the staff. This place is the exception to that rule. We had an incredible dining experience.
A word of caution, if youâre ordering an appetizer, ask your server to delay putting in your entree order because their kitchen staff will have your main entrees out very quickly. Their ticket time is super fast.
They didnât have their liquor license yet so, no alcohol today. They expect it to come through very soon. That just meant we got to enjoy some of their incredible âMocktailsâ (Alcohol Free Drinks.)
If you enjoy great food, served by people who aim to please, check out Union Tacos at Summit Pointe, youâll be happy that you did and you can rest assured that you are supporting our local...
Read more7/26/25 - Came here for lunch on a Saturday. It wasn't too busy and were able to be seated right away. The atmosphere is nice and love the decor. I ended up getting 3 different tacos instead of doing the 3 for 14, which I'm glad I did because the tacos I was considering to do 3 of, was my least favorite. I got there special taco, shrimp taco which was $7, I then got the bulgogi beef, and Korean bbq chicken, which were $5 each. My favorite was the Korean chicken bbq, then the shrimp, and lastly the bulgogi. For the price your paying I wasn't too impressed with the portions. The tacos do not come with sides, you have to add those for an additional cost, which I did not do. My shrimp taco had two pieces of shrimp. They were generous on the beef bulgogi with the amount of meat but the bulgogi reminded me of jerky flavor, as if I was eating beef jerky. My husband said the beef looked like pot roast beef. I also got their drink special the watermelon mojito and completely didn't see it had jalapenos. đ It was quite spicy for me. The drink was delicious besides that and good amount of liquor. My husband got the carne asada tacos, which he said they were a little salty but alright. He also got a side of rice and ended up getting a side of rice to go, the side of rice to go was much larger. Service was okay. We were seated behind the wall which was nice to have the area to our own but felt our waitress sometimes forgot about us. They also have a huge selection of tequila and tequila flights. For the pricing I was just expecting a bit more and wasn't amazed at the food. I heard they have great happy hour which I...
