I love this place. I used to work near here and to be perfectly honest I went there based on convenience, although I had tried 3 other places before I gave them a shot.
Usually with a good dinner/lunch place you have three criteria Good, cheap, fast where you can find 2 of these 3 fulfilled however Yama has CONSISTENTLY fulfilled on all 3.
Well priced lunch specials and the dinner specials are appropriate. Quality sushi across the board; nigiri, sashimi, maki all of their selection is served with quality presentation and excellent service. Fast service, there may be a slight wait while they have rushes (lunch, dinner on peak days/hours) but if you are in a hurry sit at the bar and cut out the middle man server and the chef will just hand you your meal.
Overall I can't say enough great things about them, my wife and I love it there and if she asks me what I am thinking for dinner she KNOWS my first choice will always be Yama.
bonus their fruit is always great, oranges in the winter and watermelon in the summer, its like magic always ripe...
Read moreSo it was my friend's birthday and he and his wife and daughter had invited me to dinner at this sushi place in Chesapeake. They'd told me that they had some non-sushi items like chicken katsu, chicken nuggets, chicken something something, they had some chicken, bro. I'd ordered to keep with up with my friends, I had to give it a go. I'd remembered trying it like 20 years ago and not really liking it much. I don't know if it's because I'm asian and not really good with chopsticks. Whatever it is or was about me, I had to take a chance. One friend told me to try a volcano one. I think, if I remember correctly, volcanoes erupt lava. Hells naw! I ain't ready for that. So I had a shrimp tempura one which was actually pretty good. The eel sushi was pretty good. I can't say I'm 100% on board the sushi boat, but I'd probably rather try the sushi than to ride a rollercoaster at a theme park. Thanks for the food, my amigos and amigas, and Happy Birthday! (not mentioning the names to protect...
Read moreExcellent, excellent, excellent. Amazing service and great food. I can't stress this enough--if yama sushi isn't on your go-to list of restaurants... you are making a mistake. Me and my husband go as often as we can. Even the first time we went, Yama treated us like we were their most important customer. Every time we go they always include an extra few pieces of sushi for us to try of their specialty rolls. The food comes out FAST and it is very fresh. Not a fan of sushi? Try their shumai and chicken teriyaki. Both are awesome. The chicken teriyaki has a ton of fresh vegetables and great flavor. Any of their rolls with oysters are a must try. Also--they give you complimentary chocolate when they give you the check. All around--yama does a great job creating a welcoming atmosphere that lets you know, they really appreciate you and want you to come...
