It’s tough to find consistently good (non-chain) restaurants in Colonial Heights/Chester. Bell Greek was a much-needed addition to the area. The food is fresh, the portions are beyond generous, and the flavors are deeeelish!
Pictured here is: Gyro platter – includes green beans, rice, tzatziki sauce and pita bread. I can easily get two meals from this platter, sometimes three!! The succulent lamb is cooked to absolute perfection and pairs beautifully with the rice and green beans. The tzatziki is some of the best I’ve had. This dish is a constant craving. You can’t really tell from the photo, but the meat just keeps going & going. It’s like a mountain. All of this for under $11! (price as of this review Oct. ’21)
Mega Gyro (w/lamb) – included a huge order of fries. My other half is obsessed with gyros and this big papa sent him to gyro heaven. I was laughing when he picked it up because the thing was bigger than his face!
Side salad – way bigger than expected and super fresh! I’m a big fan of feta cheese and theirs is spectacular!
Dolmades – I highly recommend getting the full-sized appetizer instead of the side order of two pieces. This is one of my favorite snacks and they do it better than most. The grape leaves are completely tender. So, so, so good! I like mine served cold, but they also have an option to have them hot.
Mini baklava – lordofmercy … so.freakin.good. I might need a support group soon because I can see myself easily becoming addicted to these irresistible treats. There’s an after-flavor of cinnamon that makes me feel all warm and cozy inside.
Chocolate Macaroon – my partner selected this dessert and I ended up eating half of it. It was so fluffy in the middle. The texture and the added chocolate made this absolutely divine.
After reading other reviews, I can’t wait to try the soup next time. Definitely check this place out if you...
Read moreThey did it again! After my first experience with this falsely advertised "authentic, Greek cuisine" in Midlothian where I was absolutely disgusted by the so-called moussaka and tasteless green beans, this business had the audacity to expand. I find it difficult to believe that they are still in business.
The location in Midlothian obviously microwaved the food when I visited my one and only time. I did not realize that there was no full kitchen because I waited outside for my food. I should have known better than to eat there when I did not smell any food cooking.
At any rate, I had a terrible headache from the salt/sodium in that food that appeared to have come from some place like a wholesale club. The food was so horrible that I could not even eat it and I vowed to never return. However, I could not find the name of the restaurant to comment until today, 04Mar19, when I saw my food from the Chester location. I had seen this food before.
This location is actually in Chester. The moussaka had the same tomatoey smell as the first time I smelled it, which is not the way authentic moussaka should smell. This moussaka is not an authentic recipe; it should be a thick cream sauce not overflowing with tomato sauce and melted cheese.
The green beans were very bland to me. The sliced lamb did not taste like any lamb I had ever eaten/tasted. Once again, I was not impressed at all even though the Chester location appears to have a full kitchen.
If you are looking for authentic Greek cuisine, keep looking because this is not it. The pic with the neatly cut moussaka is what authentic moussaka should look like. A pic is worth a thousand words! Looks like I will have to wait for the Greek festival to get authentic moussaka or go back overseas to a real Greek restaurant. 😕

Read moreI’m always hesitant to give negative reviews, so I sat on this one for a while, and after much consideration here goes. First off- the food here is phenomenal. The only authentic Greek we’ve had since moving to VA from Chicago, so the fact that I’ll never order food here again is tragic, as it’s a fave. Since the pandemic we order carry out exclusively, and I have been driving an hour and change each way to get their food. My two previous orders there went as follows; I got all the way home to discover I had about half of the food I’d ordered and was told there was nothing they could do about it because I didn’t check the order before I left the restaurant. I had three tied off bags food, and isn’t that THEIR job?!? I chalked that up to a one off after a few months and the last time was the breaking point- I ordered food online on the way home from DC and they accepted the order. Pickup in 15-30 minutes, ok cool. I’m going an hour out of my way because I’m a foodie, and I want what I want. Unbeknownst to me, my spam filter blocked a call from them and I returned the call 20 minutes later- for them to very nonchalantly tell me they close at 8 now. I was so stunned I was speechless. No apologies, no I hope this wasn’t a major inconvenience for you, nothing. Nothing about that on the website, and why did they accept the order if they were closed? And why in the world would you not leave a voicemail message in this situation? Boggles the mind. Suffice it to say their biggest fan will be loving them from afar. A little bit of actual customer service goes a long way with me, and they...
