Satchmo's Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Chesterfield

We picked Satchmo's due to its review and rating while looking for a bar and resturant with live music. We made a reservation online, very painless from their webpage. We arrived and were seated right away. My wife had sirloin and I had the Jack Daniel's Ribeye. The steaks were good. Flavorful and tender. The twice baked potatoes we both had were not baked all the way. Half was still overly firm. The waitress was very attentive without overdoing it. They were very busy. We ordered cheescake for dessert. The flavor was ok but it reminded me of a box cheesecake in appearance. It was thin and had an almost nonexistent Graham cracker crust. We decided we wanted to stay and listen to the band as they were very good. The bar was full and most of the tables. We decided to order cocktails off of their menu. My wife ordered a Blackberry margarita, I ordered a BlackBerry martini. I ordered by pointing at the martini on the menu. We waited quite a while and the waitress brought to drinks. She said here is your margarita and daiquiri and left. We got the hostess to send her back. She said she thought I had ordered a daiquiri, I asked please bring me a martini. We waited a while again. She returned with another daiquiri starting her "bar manager" had made it wrong. She said I could have the daiquiri and they would make the martini. I said never mind just bring me a beer. They did give me the beer for free. I would go back again if we didnt live 4 and half hours away. As busy as they were, they had 4 people behind the bar making drinks, and serving beer. They print out their drink orders. Someone just isn't paying attention here or something. When it was all said and done, my wife didnt drink her margarita, she said it was terrible. The blackberries according to the drink menu were supposed to be muddled. It didnt appear any berries were muddled. There were a couple floating on top. At this point we gave up, paid our tab and left.

Update: The owner contacted me by email and addressed things. I am very happy with the outcome and I am going to try and make it back for another visit since the place really seems to have some...

I have been wanting to give this place a try for a while now, the food they post on social media along with the specials they offer looked to be a good spot near the house to give a shot. So last night my wife, two kids and in-laws went there to give it a shot. 3 of the 6 got the tuesday taco special, I got the shrimp tacos and my son got the brick (roast beef dip). The food was better than your average bar and we all seemed to enjoy the food with no complaints.

Service on the other hand was painful, drinks took longer than they should and my son and daughter both ordered sprite, but got lemonade (which they didn't like but tried) along with waiting 40+ minutes for food after we ordered. With a 5yo and a 11yo along with eating late, that was not fun. We finally got our food and everything looked good.

After dinner, we got the bill, and it was also wrong. We got charged for an appetizer we never ordered and side sauce we did not order along with the lemonade my kids did not order and did not end up drinking (they ordered water after the mix up). The total was over $20 higher than it was supposed to be. I wasn't even going to look at the bill, just threw my CC in the folder and was going to pay, but because the waitress took a bit to come pick it up, I took a look and noticed several things on the bill we never ordered. So my wife took it to another server at the bar to have it all corrected.

Unfortunately, I wanted to like the place and have a close casual non chain to go for dinner. I think we will give it one more shot and see how it goes, but my wife and family were...

We’ve eaten here quite a few times in the past and just had started coming again. New owners have now taken over. The place was given a refresh and that is nice. The prices were increased on most dishes.

We made the mistake of going on Tuesday night during the time just before the Trivia night. It was crowded and they only had two servers and no bussers. One server was in training. It’s tough out there so we were patient. On Tuesday they still have a hamburger special but it has changed. You have to buy a drink if some kind to get it and no adding bacon or any of the other things they used to have. No adding a salad for 2.50. We decided on the shrimp and grits and jambalaya. I ordered the larger portion of shrimp and grits for $19+. The grits barely covered the bottom of the bowl and it had 6 smaller shrimp. Not sure if they mixed up the size for the smaller portion. The jambalaya had a huge amount of tomato sauce which overwhelmed the dish. When it came time to pay we were not given a bill, just told how much it was. That was on us and we should have asked.
