Having planned a morning and afternoon with my family and granddaughter, we decided to experience one of the local restaurants near the Indiana Lakeshore National Park. The restaurants, all in Chesterton, Indiana, are the closest food establishments. I have been a visitor to the Chesterton area for over 49 years, loving its calm, beautiful and laid back surroundings. Since I’ve become accustomed to the heretofore friendly or at least disinterested attitude of the locals, I still kinda harbored some concerns about visiting one of several restaurants in the area. Why? Because we are a Black/African American family. We pulled into the parking lot, noted the outside dining area with several available tables and chairs, as well as empty tables inside. My daughter went inside with my granddaughter, inquired about availability/seating for 5 adults and a child, and was told that there was no available seating. Clearly observing numerous tables open, both inside and out, my daughter inquired how long before a table would be available. The waitress on duty refused to answer initially snd then responded that she had no idea when a table would be open, inside or outside. She also mentioned that another family was being seated, however, no one was being seated at the time. There were no people in the restaurant who were non-White. When you add in the states and hateful glares that were directed at my daughter, it is evident what the “problem” is. I’m reasonably certain that the owners and patrons of this establishment will appreciate this review, because it’s clear they want every White person to know that non-Whites will not be welcomed here. Congratulations! You got...

Really been disappointed with the quality of the food and preparation, and the absolutely shocking overpriced Items... it’s really sad to see a business with an obvious decrease in quality (really burnt mushy hash browns, very skimpy on ingredients in the omelette Really been disappointed with the quality of the food and preparation, and the absolutely shocking overpriced Items... it’s really sad to see a business with an obvious decrease in quality (really burnt mushy hash browns, very skimpy on ingredients in the omelette (a 2 egg omelette? Wha? 🤨) and the really seriously overcooked and kinda gross eggs, it’s really slacking, and I hope the management team can get this local restaurant where it needs to be, cmon guys seriously get real, it’s overpriced low quality poorly prepared food, and In a small town like we have here, it’s really a shame to alienate the patrons that are keeping the cafe in business.... then again maybe they won’t be for long at this rate! We’re not into bashing businesses...but we’re not into getting the very bottom tier quality, the skimp job, and then a bill that was totally unreasonable. Hey sorry but not gonna let this go unaddressed, and the reviews here are important to the process of growth and identifying the factors which can help the businesses adjust practices. I gotta also add the wait staff seem to acknowledge the quality and price dissatisfaction with a shrug and indifference, which was somewhat telling of the lack of confidence...

I'm not sure where to start with this review. We stopped by this afternoon for brunch/lunch. Multiple servers told us to sit anywhere. We picked a table then waited 5-10 minutes for menus then the server dropped them and took off, didn't even introduce herself. After about 10 minutes, she finally came back, we knew what we wanted to drink, but weren't ready to order and she seemed very annoyed. About 10 minutes or so later she came back again and we ordered. Took close to 30 minutes to get our food even though they weren't very busy. She once again dropped our food and ran. I got a grilled cheese and fries which was fine, but my girlfriend got some kind gravy bowl with hash browns, and egg. After a few bites you could see all the grease sitting in bottom of the bowl. After sitting there for close to 45 minutes, our server finally came back to bring us our check and was very annoyed that my girlfriend was unhappy with her meal and just told us that that happens when it sits. We told her it was inedible. She took it back and said she would see what she could do. She finally came back like 10 minutes later and all she did was take 10% off of that one item that couldn't even be eaten. This is by far one of the worst experiences we have ever had eating out and I am very sorry we wasted our time and money. This experience even made us late for our next outing as brunch should not take over an hour and thirty minutes. We definitely won't...

When you’re eating vegan, it can be difficult to know what places actually serve breakfast that fits the bill. Today, I learned Third Coast Spice Cafe has a handful of breakfast options for someone going plant-based, and I couldn’t be happier. I started off with a piping hot cup of black coffee, with just the right zip to kickstart my engine. For food, I ordered myself the tofu scramble and organic oatmeal. The oats themselves were quite hearty and thick, with the brown sugar adding a lovely sweet undercurrent to every bite. I will admit, the tofu scramble was a bit of a wild card for me, but I’m glad I tried it. Hidden under the Sides section of the menu, this little bowl of tofu tossed in their curry sauce packs a potent punch. In the future, knowing what I do now about what it actually is, you could probably order a side of hash browns to mix it with and have a delicious start to the day. Lastly, food and drinks aside, Third Coast Spice Cafe has a comfortable atmosphere. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful, and the soft chatter of patrons and sunlight flittering through the window certainly makes this gem worth a stop when you’re out and about in The Region. Excited to stop back by and try those lunch options!

Had an amazing experience at Third Coast Spice Cafe in Chesterton! 🌟 This spot has such a warm, welcoming vibe that’s perfect for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. 🥞☕ The staff was super friendly and attentive, which made our visit even better. 🙌 I ordered the Durango Chicken Sandwich 🐔🥪 and wow — so flavorful! The chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned with just the right amount of spice 🌶️🔥. The toasted bread had a perfect crunch, and it came with a side of crispy golden fries 🍟 plus a delicious dipping sauce that tied everything together. 😋 We sat outside and loved the relaxed atmosphere 🌤️ — a cozy spot to enjoy great food and conversation. The coffee was excellent too ☕, rich and smooth, served piping hot in a fun, bright mug. 🧡 Overall, Third Coast Spice Cafe is a hidden gem 💎 in Chesterton. Fresh, thoughtful food, fantastic service, and a cozy vibe that keeps you coming back. I can’t wait to return and try more — especially after falling in love with that Durango Chicken Sandwich! 🤤🙌

On our way out of town, we stopped at the Third Coast Spice Café in Chesterton for breakfast. We’re glad we did! Situated in a strip mall not far from the I-94 freeway, it was a step above other cafés. Though it has the usual breakfast fare, it was done with care and an added touch. For example, cheeses go beyond cheddar and American; peppers go beyond just bell. My wife had the Florentine Omelet which included balsamic tomatoes, caramelized onions, spinach and asiago cheese. I had the Garden Omelet which included roasted red bell peppers, caramelized onions, artichoke hearts, balsamic tomatoes, spinach and Swiss cheese; I also got a side of peppered bacon. Our meals were outstanding. The wait staff was prompt and courteous and the prices were reasonable. If you’re traveling along I-94 in northern Indiana and looking for breakfast or lunch, give Third Coast Spice Café a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
