Usually people are compelled to write negative reviews because a negative experience is something that tends to stay with you, especially when it comes to food and even more so when you pay for it. Well, I know what to expect from Taco John's in terms of their food and the locations are pretty consistent about the quality (4-stars because I don't like the spiciness of the beef) but what always gets me is that the employees are always great to me. Not being from the city or state and having moved here almost 2 years ago, I am still pleasantly surprised by how polite and helpful people are in the city generally but within the service industry especially and Taco John's specifically.
Food service jobs are among the worst types of jobs to work at. I've done delivery in a few different cities in two different states and the treatment I've received in that capacity is appalling. Now that most of the population has an internet connected phone with a camera, we are blessed to read the unhinged ramblings of the insanely entitled. Is it shocking when employees who have to endure shift after shift of abusive customers no longer seem to care?
I made an order after I'd finished working and I selected to pick it up in the drive-thru. Now, it used to be that I would get a text message with a link asking me to share my location so they would know when I was on my way. When I would click that link, the app would open with a question similar to "are you at the store now?" and I would select "yes" and then the order would be sent to the kitchen. Apparently that has changed. I received the text, but this time when I clicked on the link, the app opened to the order and it said "Order Complete!" It would not be such a big deal, but I had to pick up an order from another restaurant whose chicken quesadillas are superior to Taco John's. This other place seems to have a serious problem with Sunday evenings. I don't want to say who it is, but the name rhymes with Paco Fell. They seem to understaff every Sunday and apparently this happens at multiple locations. I spent about 30-40 minutes waiting in a drive-thru.
When I arrived to Taco John's and saw that my order had already been completed, I was a little annoyed that it had been sent to the kitchen without me having confirmed that I was at the store, but really it was the fault of management at the OTHER location for understaffing their restaurant. Probably something to do with corporate wanting to keep labor costs down.
But when I got to the window, the young men working inside informed me that my order had been disposed of because of how long it had been sitting, and that they were already in the process of making me a new order. That was not even necessary. I was fully prepared to eat my food the way that I was expecting it to be: old. The thing about it was that they seemed HAPPY TO DO IT. There was no snark about it. In fact, THEY were apoligizing to ME.
Look, I understand that it's fast food. I've had plenty of experiences with getting fries or chicken nuggets that had obviously been sitting for a while and it's annoying. Those experiences happen often enough and I stop spending my money at that particular place. I understand that the people working at the other place were maybe not so friendly, but it's probably not the first Sunday they've been through where the drive-thru line was taking 20 minutes per customer with no end in sight. I'm happy they got my order correct and if I didn't get a smile from them, I will find a way to survive.
But something tells me that if the situation had been reversed and it was Taco John's employees that had a 12-car line in the drive-thru, those employees would STILL have gone the extra mile and remade my food with a smile on their faces. I cannot think of a single instance where I've received poor service from Taco John's, but I feel like every time I DO go to one I feel as though I'm always getting the BEST service that I've ever gotten every time.
Thank you, gentlemen...

We had takeout breakfast today. The breakfast burritos were good and so were Mexican style donuts. The bad part was that about half of the potato oles in both of the medium containers were dry and hard. I think you over cooked them Taco Johns. Everything else was fine. You need to watch your cooking time on those potato oles Taco Johns. Those potato oles were also on the cold side. All of us who tried them were disappointed.
New review today...
I gave them another chance today around 9:30 am which was about 7 months since my first above review. The order was made OK accept the coffee came up empty after filling my cup about half way. I asked the girl working the cash register to finish filling up my cup. The coffee behind the counter was also empty. She had to make to make a new pot. I did not have time to wait for the coffee to be made and I also did not have time to wait for a refund since they were helping another customer. Its seemed that they were a bit short handed for a Sunday morning. But then what do you expect from low ball trash can level wages that no body could even afford to alone pay their rent. Plus I suspect it might be like most other fast food places where management has a habit of screaming, yelling, and even insulting their workers. While I have not seen this bad treatment of employees at this store it is certainly very typical of most fast food places. Is it any wonder that fast food places have all new employees every few months or even every few weeks. BTW, while I was waiting for my order TWO other customers came up to the cash register one right after the other with complaints. One did not there guacamole and the other did not get their sour cream on their food. So that was at least three mistakes over less than 15 minutes while I was waiting for my food. Taco Johns you just lost another star....
Read moreNormally I don't have issues with the Taco Johns on the corner of Pershing and Ridge Road, but today was something else. I am unsure if it was an off day or not. I entered the store and couldn't get help from the employees even when I stood at the register. I finally waved an employee down and asked about my pickup order that was supposed to be ready 10 mins prior. The employee I spoke with was very short and rude; lacked basic customer service skills. Since the order wasn't going to be ready for the person I needed to get it to in time, I asked to cancel the order. Was told had to cancel on the app. Let her know the app said I needed to cancel with the store to which she mumbled something in frustration then got her manager. As mentioned, I normally don't have issues at this location but this experience...
