Butcher & The Burger serves up a delicious and substantial burger, but the price can get out of control quite quickly. They have a chalkboard menu that immediately catches your eye when you walk in, with basic burgers starting at around $9 and the option to build your own that also starts at that level, but can quickly reach around $15 with premium add-ons, such as bacon and avocado, or the essential truffle mayo. My fiance and I placed our orders and grabbed a table on the small outdoor patio while our burgers were being prepared. The burgers came out in about 10-15 minutes, and they were absolutely fantastic. They were cooked as we requested (medium) and all the toppings really came together. The pretzel bun was soft and delicious (but really, how can you go wrong with that?!) and really brought the burger together. The side of fries were perfectly crispy and seasoned. The staff was friendly and prompt, as was the management and the cooks. The only reason to dock off a star is that we nearly spent $40 on the meal for the two of us, which seems steep for burgers and fries...
Read moreMy partner and I were hangry after being left disappointed by the lines at the Taste of Chicago, so we decided to stop by someplace new on our way home to give ourselves our own celebration of our city's food. Butcher & The Burger was very unassuming when we went (4:30PM on a Saturday, no line to get in). The staff asked us if it was our first time and helped us through their menu and their options.
We were excited when we heard that their fries were deep fried in pork lard (might've been beef, I blacked out from hunger once I heard that). Fear not, vegetarian/vegan friends, they have non-animal based oils for their fries as well.
There's a $15 lunch deal that runs from 11AM to 5PM that includes a basic patty, fries, and a coke and, honestly, that was a steal for what I will call one of THE BEST burgers I have ever had.
To top it off, once we were finished and cleaning up, one of their burger artists came out to personally ask us how we found it. They really seem to love what they do and care about how their customers perceive them and enjoy their food. Kudos to a...
Read moreWas very interested to try this once I found out about it. The proposition is quite enticing- high quality beef made into high quality burgers in a fast casual setting - but the execution fell a bit short.
Order: Split-top bun House blend patty cooked medium American cheese Onion, tomato, mayo, ketchup Chicago steakhouse seasoning
I kept it simple to try to let the meat shine through. My burger came out verging on well done with nary any color inside. Outside had a char that occasionally produced a bit of an unpleasant acrid burnt flavor, possibly from the seasoning blend. Just overcooked overall. Given the same ingredients, I could have cooked it better myself.
Price wise, it's pretty standard for a gourmet burger, but can quickly add up if you want to involve fries and premium toppings, which I haven't. Fair value just wished the burger came out better.
Staff and ambiance were great.
Left a bit disappointed but I'm willing to give it another shot at some point with a...
