I have never put any bad review before. But this time, I think I have the responsibility to let all online viewers know how the restaurant did for us as the longtime customers. Firstly, we ordered a DOLO platter, we did not check the price since we thought the platter is just not that expensive. There are cucumbers, roasted pork, beef tender, jellyfish and seaweed. Who will think it's an expensive dish? Please check the receipt as attached. They literally charged us for $157.90. Then I will let you judge by checking the pictures of the dish. All of my friends thought it's not making sense. But since I am not the one who received the food, and we were having a party so I was not able to complain to them at the first moment.
Secondly, the delivery fee is nonsense. They charged us for $30. And actually, I was told that just a few dollars for the amount of the dishes that I ordered. And I ever ordered the similar amount of food from Go For Good, they only charged us for $10. I also checked with the online ordering system, for the $456 food, they only charged $3. Really? Please be aware that not many Chinese restaurants charged that much delivery fee. If they do, I really suggest you look for another restaurant since they are lots of Chinese restaurants. And there are many new coming. Please don't make the same mistake that I made.
Thirdly, they don't really care about the customers' complaint. Actually, I called and told them how unsatisfied we are. Their manager was doing OK. He reported to their owner at that time. The manager admitted that they did not provide enough food to us for the price we paid. He said he can give us credit. But we did not want credit. We wanted the refund. Then I talked with the owner. The owner was kind of tough and also insisted that he can give us $50 credit. And I asked them for the menu. They said it was a party tray. It was $75 for a party tray so there is no menu for it. Really? So you just charged the customer with the price you designed with NO MENU? And my coworker called them for the same foods and ordered one by one, and the total is just $42 because it was not party tray. Where is the $75 came from? Actually, I did not ask for the party tray. Guys, be careful, if you order a platter from them, they will just give you party tray with the high price to surprise you.
And the owner also returned me with the same solution with the manager. What's the point for you to call me? Because you are tougher? There is no improvement in our conversation. And I told him about the delivery fee. He said he had to talk to the board. Excuse me? For this amount of money, you have to talk to the board? At that moment I knew he was fooling me. He said he would call me on 09/03 or 09/04 because of the holidays blah blah blah. I really don't think this is a good attitude for an owner to solve the client's complaint. Anyway, he did not call me which was expected. And I don't have the responsibility to cover what you did and help you improve your management. And I really don't care about the $50 credit. I would rather go to other restaurants that really care about the customers. I really don't feel like I want to enter your restaurant again. So as my coworkers who saw the same dishes at that time. Thanks for...
Read moreI normally don’t write reviews about Chinese restaurants because most restaurants are not really as authentic as they claim. I’m from Hong Kong and I can tell if it’s a real thing or an imposter from Northern region China.
This is a second time I stumbled upon this dim sum place. The last time I was here in 2022. After 2 meals, I can tell you that this is a real HK style dim sum. However, you also need to know what to order because I don’t think you will have the same experience if you order all American dim sum.
So, I’m going to give you my honest opinion about each dish in the picture I uploaded.
Pic 1-Chrysanthemum tea, can’t go wrong with this. Please don’t drink ice water, hot tea helps bring out the flavor of each type of dim sum.
Pic 2-BBQ pork bun, the meat is tasty and the bun is steamed to perfection, not mushy.
Pic 3-Beef tripe, a good dish should have the flavor and the tripe should have the texture of crunchy, not too soft.
Pic 4-Shrimp dumplings, the shrimp mixture is seasoned to perfect taste, but the clear wrapper is a little too soft, perhaps it is in the steamer for too long, overcooked.
Pic 4-Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings), it’s okay. The soup came out hot but the pork mixture is okay. But soup dumplings is not really from HK, it originated from Shanghai, so might not be Cantonese style.
Pic 5-Mango pudding, it’s perfect for dessert after dim sum.
Pic 6-House special spicy sauce. It’s homemade, ask for it to add to your noodles. Delicious, it’s not spicy to me but I have a very high tolerance level.
Pic 7-Stir fried noodle, cooked to perfection! The noodle is crunchy and had the right amount of seasoning.
Pic 8-Tofu and eggplant with shrimp, this is HK style and you may not see it in other dim sum place. Eggplant is deep fried to perfection again, soft inside and crunchy outside with the shrimp mixture in between. Other variety you will see if also with green bell peppers.
Pic 9-steamed rice roll with shrimp, the rice paper is chewy and soft, shrimp is crunchy and seasoned right.
Pic 10-Sticky rice, it’s so good. As you can see we dived in without hesitation. It has good portion of egg yolk and sausage. Again, the sticky rice is steamed to perfection. It’s well seasoned with flavors and it’s not overcooked.
Pic 11-Steamed rice roll with BBQ pork, normally this dish used leftover BBQ pork and it sometimes doesn’t taste fresh. But this is good BBQ pork and the soy sauce that comes with it is tasty as well.
Overall, not a bad dum sum lunch. The price is also reasonable. The Chicago tax though is 11.75%...
Read moreAs someone who enjoys trying new restaurants, I was thrilled when I was invited to Dolo in Chicago for a business lunch. From the moment I walked in, I knew that this was going to be a memorable experience. The ambiance was perfect for a midday meeting - quiet enough to have a conversation but still vibrant enough to not feel stuffy.
One thing that immediately stood out to me was the menu. As someone who has a deep love for spicy food, I was ecstatic to see so many options that incorporated a little heat. My colleague and I decided to order a few items to share, and we were not disappointed. The shrimp corn dumplings were a standout - tender, juicy shrimp nestled in a crispy shell that had just the right amount of kick. The fried sweet potato crepe was another favorite - a perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness.
What really impressed me about Dolo, though, was when we returned for another meeting during a slower time, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was even better than before. This time, we decided to branch out a little and try some different items. The shrimp rolls were a new addition to the menu, and they were fantastic - perfectly cooked shrimp wrapped in a delicate rice paper roll. The scallion pancakes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the mango pancake was my favorite dish of the day. It was like biting into a ray of sunshine - sweet, juicy mango wrapped in a light, fluffy pancake with a cream filling.
One thing that really stood out to me was how reasonably priced everything was. It's not often that you find a restaurant that offers such high-quality food at such affordable prices. Even the stir-fried fish fillet with chives was a steal, and it was packed with flavor. To top it all off, the green tea was delicious - a perfect complement to the meal.
I cannot recommend Dolo enough. Whether you're looking for a casual lunch spot or a place to take clients, it has something for everyone. The food is outstanding, the prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is inviting. I've recommended it to all of my colleagues, and I look forward to...
