THIS IS a Hidden Gem. Honestly, the only reason I stopped in was because I Saw Police officers squad cars parked on the street as I got off of the I55 ramp on California Ave. Everyone knows They know the best places to eat.
So I picked up my friend Nancy from 44th and California, then drove right back to this spot.
Neither of us had ever tried this place even though she's lived in this area 7 years and me in the early 2000s.
The parking was easy, in the back plenty of spaces.
Also, as in photos, a bike rental on the corner The service was welcoming. LUIS, the owner, was fun and energetic. He told us about how this place was an original Restraunt of Chicago And how it made through all the tough times and how, during covid, he managed to survive by serving through the window.
I told him I did come on here because I saw the squad cars parked outside, and he TOOK such pride in saying, "They love my food, and i love serving them."
Right away, we could tell the food was going to take us back in time when Good Food and Prices was easy to find.
I eagerly ordered the gyros with everything and Fries and Nancy cheeseburger everything no mustard with mayo and fries. Plus, the fountain Coca-Colas.
Luis asked if the order was for here or to go.. I said.. we are going to mess up your tables and stay here to eat.
He kindly served us the food and drinks, I quickly took photos to REMEMBER and to SHOW OFF to everyone... What they were missing.
The food was great, I haven't seen that much Gyros meat in a sandwich in years. Fresh slices tomatoes and onions and taziki sauce. The serving sizes are too Genouros for the price.
The cheeseburger was not smashed and was flavorful and juicy.
After we thought we'd were done, Luis brought out a cup of his soft serve ice cream... and it was really good. The taste of the vanilla and creamy texture were added pluses to his menu.
I can't 100% describe how good everything was; but today, we've made this our favorite new place to go to when I come up to visit my best friend of 28 years.

Read moreThe Philly cheese sandwich was new to me. The price was reasonable, I actually love the way the food was packed. I would return. Wish the place had a menu to look at? For them that's still new to the place of order. That's on the internet. Know this place is very valuable. It was there as a restaurant before, I was born. Something that they make, is newer then the way I use to eat the plate. Still it's cool. The place all over chicago city, in all...
Read more5 star food. The fries are delicious, the burgers are huge. I haven't tried much else but the few things I tried off the menu have all been stellar. The menu is just huge, full of Chicago favorites. This little mom n pop can roll with the best of them. If you're looking for good food and not worried about glare, this is the place. I guess it's like they say, the more dangerous the neighborhood the...
