Cocina Cortes — Restaurant in Chico

Went there for the first time the other day and I was very pleasantly surprised. I ordered the special of the day, the enchilada dinner, and my girlfriend ordered three carne asada tacos. It was really cheap, our order was just over $10 so I was expecting it to not be large servings, but as I looked around, I noticed everyone had huge servings.

First came out cops and salsa, and the salsa was really good, not too mild, and the chips were freshly made. It took a minute for us to get our food, but it was lunch time and there were quite a few people in front of us. When the food got to is, it was amazing. Three enchiladas, beans, rice, salad, sour cream, and guacamole. A huge serving that I couldn't even finish and I'm a big guy, for $5. I got chili verde, and it was cooked to perfection. The tacos were also very good, large corn tortillas with lots of meat, red onions, cilantro, cheese, and sour cream.

No clue how this place has such good reviews. Maybe it was just a bad day for them when I came in. They gave my family a bunch of stale tortilla chips with canned tomato salsa. The meat in all of our meals was flavorless and very tough. Also the beans had a very odd taste to them almost like plastic. The sodas they gave us didn't have any flavor since I guess their soda machine ran out or syrup. Then they ran out of cold beers. I just moved to Chico and thought I would try it out since it had good reviews and it was close to my new place. I regret ever coming here. Basically everything here was terrible. Would not...

My daughter had a bowl of menudo that was massive. She said that it had great flavor and worth the 7 dollars. She took half the serving home to her other sister. So in other words 1 large serving is perfect for two. I had the enchilada plate. Tgere were three tortillas with whole beans. The tortillas were warmed and dipped in a rich red chilie sauce before being filled with beans. On tge sude was a small bed of lettuce with a dallop of fresh guacamole.
