Summary: The only thing saving this place is the steak and the dessert. Otherwise I wouldn’t consider going again. The shaken cocktails are watered down, but the stirred cocktails pretty good. The water they serve is disgusting. See if they maybe have other water you can pay extra for. Load up on the steak and mashed potatoes. Save room for the dessert.
More details: First thing I noticed is the water they give you is some pretty bad tap water, wasn’t the worst but it was noticeable especially for the price point of the restaurant I’ve never had water this bad in Chico. I didn’t ask but it would be a good idea to see if they have other water available. Water 5/10
The bread they serve you is amazing I think one is a sour dough and the other is I think a dark honey wheat. It tastes very similar to Outback Steakhouse bread. 10/10
We ordered the side car and the barrel aged selection and espresso martinis the shaken cocktails were very watered down which could be due to smaller ice cubes used to shake the cocktails because I noticed a lot of small ice chunks in those still I’ve had worse my girlfriend wanted to send the sidecar back but I just gave her my cocktail as it didn’t taste bad enough that I was willing to sent the cocktail back. The barrel aged selection cocktail as a stirred cocktail was perfect. The glasses they use for all their cocktails are very excessively sized and the martini glasses are super thick and don’t sit in the hands very comfortably also they’re not the kind of upper endglass ware one would expect for the price point. Cocktails Shaken: 5/10 Cocktails stirred: 8/10 Glassware 5/10
Prawns were alright and the sauce was alright but the plating was pretty funny just seems weird to plate prawns on a bed of lettuce. Wasn’t very visually pleasing and seems kinda wasteful as it doesn’t feel like you are supposed to eat the lettuce, at the same time if a person wanted lettuce they would order a salad. Prawns: 6/10
10 ounce dry aged ribeye rare was some of the best I’ve had. I think a lot of steak houses get rare steak wrong but the crust was spectacular while the inside was perfect and the steak just melts in your mouth and the seasoning and butter is spectacular. The mashed potatoes were amazing. Also comes with a baked head of garlic which paired everything together so well. 10/10
Scallops were amazing, great sear on them and really nice texture. The spinach with garlic was nice but the scalloped sweet potatoes weren’t anything to rave over. My girlfriend found them too sweet and not seasoned very well. 7/10
The dessert trio we ordered with the crème brûlée, banana cheesecake, and the cookie brownie was pretty good. Not a lot of resturaunts do good desserts and I would but a whole cheesecake if they sold it and take it home. The crème brûlée was good the cookie brownie was meh. Cheesecake 10/10 Crème brûlée 9/10 Brownie cookie 8/10
Location is perfect, quiet, comfortable, servers are really nice we ate outside and the lighting is comfortable and they have warmers outside. There’s no lobby so while you wait for your table you are trying not to be in the way of the people sitting in the front. Bathrooms, super tiny, not well placed and not very nice but it’s an old building and not the worst steakhouse bathroom I’ve seen plus expansion would take a lot from their relativly...
Read more5h Street is the best steakhouse in Chico. It is all great and there is noting not to like. This is an old school steakhouse so don't expect oddly made food or super healthy food, although they have plenty for a gluten free or vegetarian diet. They have a full bar and large wine list.
The place is beautiful. I love the outside stone exterior and the outdoor dinning. We ate inside and it was super comfortable and really pretty. It would be great to go there for a special event or with a couple. It is kid friendly and they have high chairs if you need one.
The food is great. We love their clam chowder. It is seasoned to perfection. Their blackened shrimp and their shrimp in an amazing sauce is great as well. They have a nice selection of salads.
We also love their old fashion shrimp cocktail, I so miss it on menus. Their calamari was ever so wonderful. We had the stuffed chicken breast which I did not think I would love, but I did. It is stuffed with prosciutto and fontina cheese with garlic mashed potatoes and a rich marsala wine sauce. Just wow.
As to steaks try the rib eye or the New York steak. Get mashed or some onion rings with it. They know how to make a steak and they are all great meats and have a tab of butter melting on top. It is just so tasty. They also have a 10 oz. rib-eye, with the best, just OMG cheddar Mashed Potatoes, crispy onion strings, in a delicious Molé Rub.
We did not have wine, but the list is large and the selection is very nice.
For dessert we tried the Dark chocolate Lava cake with vanilla bean ice cream and caramel as well as their warm white chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream.
The service was perfect. From the hostess to our servers, they were so nice and welcoming. They know the menu well and can help you. They are fast but don't rush you at all.
Make a reservation because it was a tad crowded when we were there.
This is a fine dinning place and we saw a made in cargo shorts and we just thought, who raised you. Don't do that. You will be out of place or maybe dine outside.

Read moreFYI from a local of 35 years....I have gone to 5th street steak house many times. It has gone down in quality by environment...Definitely not worth a $150 bucks. For my 57th b-day on 11/22/14 not a good choice. Service was terrible at the bar...a one star.. and they did not know how to make my drink. We finally got back after an hour to eat then another hour and this is not a place for a romantic dinner, extremely loud to the point we could not hear each other talk. No dress code and some people arrive in shorts tee shirts and looking dirty. Service at dinner was a 4 star...food was 3 star at best. We have had equal quality of food at Outback. A better place for a really nice dinner of superb quality, for a quiet and romantic experience would be at Gold country casino at the top level restaurant..that is a true 5 star . Diamond Hotel in Chico is a better class of people then 5th street, but food 4 star. Crush is another deal, 3 star overall; good and not so good, food is in small portions and very expensive, not as loud as 5th street but still too loud for a romantic dinner. Service a bit stuck- uppish. Crush has a problem especially when they put other's bar deals on your tab then argue about it happened to us twice no going back. Sorry but my money will be better spent next time...Sometimes the best food can be found in small unassuming places...especially in Chico..Don't assume just because of ratings year after year that it is a good...
