**edit. The owner got ahold of us and was amazingly kind and helpful. They were wanting to fix things and were honestly super apologetic and offering to go above and beyond to do so. This really meant a lot of us! Do not get takeout from here. Eating at restaurant is great but takeout is sorely disappointing. We’ve ordered takeout twice from here. Both times we have been missing things/given the wrong thing. The first time we let it slide figuring it happens. However tonight we were horribly mistaken. We placed a takeout order at 6:17, it was not ready til 7:30 (they were busy so we let that slide a little) however before my husband left the restaurant he noticed they were missing my daughters rice —and somehow gave us an order of edamame instead— we caught it before we left and asked for the rice which they quickly apologized and gave us, little irksome but okay. We get home and notice that one of the sushi rolls we ordered was replaced with a different —and substantially cheaper—roll. We decided to call just to ask for our balance to be adjusted since the roll they gave us was so drastically different in price. My husband called, explained we had a takeout order and we were given the wrong sushi just as he was about to give the person on the phone the order number he was interrupted and was told “we are really busy. Call back tomorrow okay?” End of conversation. I have worked in restaurants and my husband was a manger of a local chain for several years this was not okay. I understand busy restaurant but we were customers as well and should have at least been listened to instead of told to call back tomorrow. With all of this in mind the takeout option is sorely lacking. They need someone to really check the orders and not just blow people off or give the wrong things constantly. The food we were given was okay (my salad was frozen🤷‍♀️) so I’d just eat in if you want...

This place is it!! We went on Mother's Day and returned a few days later. Service the first time was just a tad bit "inexperienced", for lack of a better term. However, the owner or Manager was running the floor and immediately rectified the issue. He even suggested some of the most fresh, delicious sashimi we have ever had (we actually ordered it the second visit, tip for the restaurant: The first time it was covered in black row caviar style, this smoked white tuna was absolutely amazing and each little bite of this row burst with flavors of the ocean mixed with the smoked tuna. It was perfect. However, the second time we ordered there was no row on top. So please keep that it made the dish!!!). The drinks were phenomenal the second time with a great selection and our waiter this time actually seemed to know what he was doing. Given the electronic payment and ordering at the table with tablets, takes away a bit from the atmospheric experience, but the food is to die for!! Everything we had from the hibachi fillet (which was cooked a perfect mid-rare and melted in your mouth), to all the sashimi we ordered (we actually ordered three of the white smoked tuna dishes on our first visit. It was so good). Not only was this some of the best sashimi that we have had in Christiansburg Blacksburg, but some of the best sashimi and dining we have experienced in Virginia. On our first visit, the owner really made it an experience for us that we won't forget. His knowledge of the menu and service made for one of the best Mother's Day's dinners we have ever had and my partner was absolutely over the moon we left with full bellies and full hearts. Ocean Samurai is one of those rare restaurants where everything just feels right. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a calm, refined atmosphere that blends modern design with nice Japanese style. It’s a great spot for a casual lunch, a nice dinner out, or even a quiet solo meal under the Sakura tree.

The food is truly outstanding. The sashimi is incredibly fresh — the salmon, yellowtail, and tuna were all sliced perfectly and tasted like they were just caught. You can really tell the chefs here care about quality. The fish is handled with precision and served at just the right temperature.

We also ordered several sushi rolls, including the Volcano Roll and the Hawaiian Roll. Both were beautifully presented and full of flavor. The Volcano Roll had a satisfying kick with a bit of smokiness, while the Hawaiian roll was light and refreshing. The sauces were well-balanced and didn’t overpower the ingredients, which is something I really appreciate.

Don’t sleep on their kitchen entree. The pork katsu was crispy and juicy, and the hibachi plate was rich, savory, and generously portioned. Every dish we tried felt thoughtfully prepared.

Service was excellent. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and made great recommendations. The staff moved efficiently even during busy hours, and the overall experience was smooth and enjoyable.

The restaurant itself is spotless and well-maintained. The dining area is clean, the lighting is soft and pleasant, and everything from the table settings to the plating shows attention to detail.
