This is a good place, one of the better ones in this area with good service. We had a party of 10 on a Football game weekend and they had plenty of space. However for large parties the back rooms do not have the same rustic, farm look as the other areas for smaller groups (I wish they had to make the experience more authentic). For cocktails, the Old Fashion was good but my suggestion for better presentation is to take out the muddled orange and cherry used to make the initial base, and replace with a fresh cherry and orange slide after mixing in the bourbon (also the finishing taste of the cocktail is better this way without the muddled ingredients). Food was good but couple of notes for improvement. The sirloin was cooked properly and great quality meat but it came a bit cold when served (perhaps timing it with the other dishes was the problem). Pork chops had a good seasoning and the bourbon glaze is definitely a nice touch but they were not too juicy, a bit overcooked perhaps. Salmon was great and so were the carrots with the cinnamon glaze. 3 of our college guests ordered the Cajun Pasta and was literally gone in seconds, definitely a good choice they said (I didn't try it). For appetizer we had the Calamari and I would also recommend it, perfectly battered and fried. We didn't try dessert this time (they were out of Crème Brûlée, my usual choice), but since I'm keeping this place in my list for a future visit I'll try it next time!

We live close by, and had been dying to try the place since it has such an awesome presence from the outside, so we chose it for Mother's day. We were sorely disappointed. We made reservations and were told tables were pre-assigned, but saw them assign our table as we checked in, all the way in back. The booths are partitioned off from each other in cramped little cubicles, and our particular one was very small, and the table was fixed so it made it impossible to squeeze all of us in (would make sure of accommodations for plus sized people ahead of time). The waitress was pleasant, but it took a while to get drinks, and said 3 times she would bring bread and didnt actually get it til after our meal started. The appetizer was okay, very like chain restaurant food, but the meal... thats what was unfortunate. The rare filet was charred so much we had to cut the outside off. The carrots weren't cooked and still crunchy, the potatoes were very odd textured. The kids food was fried so hard that it was difficult to eat. A neighboring table left as we came in, and in the hour we were there, the table was never bussed. It was varying, the reviews that we saw online after our dinner, and wish we would have really read them before. For the price point, we really expected far greater than this. Would not recommend for a date night

So my husband, a few friends of mine and myself went here yesterday, April 30th. It's a very nice, friendly environment. The staff were all dressed up and very polite. The part of the restaurant they put us in was kind of formal, which was ok, but the more rustic part was more our style. We all ordered either the herb chicken, chicken fried chicken, or steak. I had the steak. It was good.. but I could have made it at home for much cheaper and probably with more flavor. I also had the carrots and sweet potato fries. They were both ok but nothing really special. My friend got the herb chicken, and it was kinda over cooked and very dry. The chicken fried chicken my other friend had was good, but he said without the gravy his would have been very dry as well. We also got dessert, which honestly was the best part. The creme brulle and the chocolate mouse cake were delish!! For four of us, including tips, it was a little more than $260. We were shocked! However, we did get appetizers and an alcoholic beverage. But still, it was too expensive not to be perfect, in my opinion. I don't think we will be going back there but this is only my opinion. Also I don't think this is a "kid" restaurant either. Very "adult like" atmosphere. Lol

UNPROFESSIONAL SERVICE! Our family has dined here several times but we will never go back after experiencing extremely rude, unprofessional service by a couple servers. Female server was incompetent; something was either missing or wrong with every order (only 5 orders). When we asked for correction, not only did she NOT OFFER an apology after we waited almost 45 minutes for our order, but she rolled her eyes. Our drink orders were wrong as well but we decided not to even mention it because we didn’t want to cause more tension. The steak my husband ordered was undercooked so we asked them to correct it. She had to bring a manager out who verified it first (we’ve eaten at a lot of steak places and never has that happened where someone had to verify as if we were lying) before taking back to the kitchen. Again, NO APOLOGIES. Desserts came in as part of the order and of course it was wrong again. We didn’t complain anymore and we didn’t eat it either because we no longer had the appetite after hearing our server’s comments to the table of white customers across from us. This table of 4 we’re only 4 feet away from us, arrived after us, but received their order much faster, had nothing wrong with their order. They were able to finish their meals before we received our dessert. As they paid for their bill, our server said LOUDLY to them in a way to be passive-aggressive towards us “Thank you for being so easy to take care of.” That’s when I said to my family “Remember, guys, it’s easy to take care of people when you get their order right”. We did not do anything but ask our server to give us what we ordered and we were very polite everytime we requested something. When it came time to give us our receipt, the bill was wrong AGAIN. We asked for it to be corrected because that order was never delivered to our table. We still asked for our military discount because we at least deserved that much respect for serving our beloved country so she can enjoy her sweet freedom! Served over 20 years with deployments to be treated that way because we’re not the same color is wrong! Serve our country, be treated that way and see what that feels like! Thanks to these 2 servers, we will NEVER dine there again and have told everyone we know at VA Tech to ever...

Was here a few years ago previously and thought everything was great. I wish we'd have been offered where we'd have liked to be sat. But that's whatever.

Food last time was great. Food this time was okay, but not worth $30 an entree. Shrimp and grits were soupy. The chicken fried chicken was soggy with the gravy tasting like it was undercooked. The chicken itself was cooked well. They charge $7 per side if your entree doesn't come with sides. The grilled asparagus definitely did not live up to a $7 side hype nor did the mashed potatoes. My wife's diet Coke was also flat 2 out of 3 times it was served at the table.

My rating is about comparison with quality and price.

If you're doing chicken fried chicken then it's gotta be better than Cracker Barrel and it just wasn't. $13 gets you a large, crispy chicken breast with gravy and two sides. Here, $27 gets you two smallish chicken breasts (the portion size was fine just describing the dish) but with with undercooked gravy and and soggy breading.

We also got the shrimp and grits. It has a great flavor. But, it's so soupy. I needed to use a spoon instead of a fork.

Comparisons really get this place and that's where my rating comes from. I already compared the chicken dish to Cracker Barrel who executes it much better for less than half the price. We didn't have steak so I can't compare to chains.

But, Farmhouse is competing with restaurants with $30 entrees. You can easily walk out with over a $100 bill for two people.

If you're willing to have a slight drive, definitely go to Bloom in Roanoke or The Paladaides in Eggleston. The food will be about the same price but they're in different leagues compared to Farmhouse. This isn't an exaggeration. If we hadn't been to those two local restaurants than Farmhouse would be rated higher. But, those places show what this price range of food should be like.

Ultimately, reviews come down to expectations and price. A 5 star Taco Bell review might mean they gave you all of your order, didn't make you wait 30 minutes, and the bathroom was usable. A 5 star review for a place where two entrees and an appetizer are $100 has very different expectations. When you compare to The Paladaides or Bloom, our experience was at least 2...

I hate to be like this, but the service is awful. There is no nice way to put it. We’ve been 2 times before I decided to review, not counting the 1 time we placed orders for take out. The food is just okay, so you would think that they would compensate by providing awesome service. Spoiler: they don’t. The first time we dined in, we waited for 30 min seated at our table before even having water delivered. Not only that, but in middle of serving us, our original waitress decided she was too busy to serve our table, so we had another waitress take over our table which took an additional 15 minutes. By then we were hungry and losing our patience. We were already seated, and with having a one year old we don’t get many date nights, so we put in a drink order. Another 15 minutes later, our drinks were brought to us. What should have been an hour and a half meal, turned into 2 and a half hours. The food was lack luster once it got to us. We assumed it was an off night. We gave this place another shot since it’s the only restaurant that’s not a chain in a 2 mile radius. Our second time going, we ordered drinks, which took 20 minutes to receive. When my MIL finally got her cosmopolitan, it was literally all cranberry juice. I almost laughed when I sipped it because it must have been a joke. Food was cold when it came out. The service, again, was terrible with our waitress nowhere to be found. We were so disappointed. Our most recent experience was when we were trying to figure out what to eat one night and, stupidly, we thought that ordering to-go would be a better experience. SO WRONG. We were told over the phone that our order of burgers and fries would take 30 min. That’s fine. My husband gets there to pick up our food 40 min after placing the order, and it’s still not ready. He ends up waiting there for 15 min for the food to be ready. I don’t know if it’s because we’re from a city that maybe our service expectations are too high, or what? But this place is WAAAAY overrated and I will not ever spend my money there again. What a waste of a...
