Tapioca Express — Restaurant in Chula Vista

This is a review I'm really unhappy to write. I used to take my kids to the Tapioca Express in East Lake a couple times/week after school until it closed down. The place was great, people friendly, service excellent and the drinks and food great. good times.

Today I was in Plaza Bonita with my daughter and we drove by this TE on the way home. Of course we stopped. Couldn't NOT stop. Imagine the shock when we entered to find you don't actually place an order with a human. You need to hunt and peck through a screen they have setup. It was frustrating to get just the tea entered. turns out it was under "flavored teas". I had three more drinks to go + 4 food bowls. It was just too complicated.

Pros: Super friendly and efficient cashier Drinks taste great after mixing them myself at home Not busy or crowded, in fact it looked empty when I arrived. Order came out quick but...

Cons: Waiting longer than usual as the only customer inside while employees chatted before taking my order. Order felt and looked very rushed, everything just thrown in the cup, not mixed very well with messy/dripping lids.

Maybe they felt they had to rush my order as an apology for making me wait before placing it IDK either way it's nothing personal, but from a purely business perspective the experience made me second guess returning...

The new owners suck!! My first drink with the grad reopening literally had no boba in it as requested. The next time I went they gave me a regular size instead of the large that I paid for. And today they had me stand there waiting for them to count out their cash drawer before taking my order. So I stepped back so as to not rush them.
