Was excited to have a good breakfast and was more than disappointed. Walking in expecting to be greeted and seated, the girl at the front said to order first. She did not offer a greeting, smile or anything. My wife told her that we were new and had not been in before, still no direction. We ordered our food, coffee and juice. She put the cups on the counter. My wife asked for creamer and was told it was around the corner. Another staff person put empty cups down and said they were for water. I asked were we suppose to carry all that along with the silverware to our table? The first girl just looked unsure of what to say and another staff member behind her offered to carry it to our table. We ordered the Eggs Benedict and Corned beef hash with 2 eggs over medium. When the server brought the food to our table, I asked for hot sauce. She pointed over her shoulder and said over there. One of the eggs on my hash was over medium but the other was hard. I honestly was so upset at this point for the lack of service and care by the staff that I asked for a refund. My wife ate about 1/4 of the eggs Benedict. She did not like the taste and said that it was over seasoned for her. We did enjoy the flavor of the OJ and coffee. There was no one coming around to remove plates so I did set a plate on a table that was not being used. This did upset the one girl who happened to walk by. The rolling of her eyes and shake of her head was enough for me to say drink up and let's go. A manager did come over with our receipt for the refund and did listen to our experience. She did say they had only been open for about a month and was working a few kinks out and was apologetic. To me it all felt a little food truck like and not really a sit down restaurant. You can compensate bad service with good food but when you have bad service and bad food, it is hard to imagine...
Read moreCame here for lunch as have been wanting to try The Rooted Fork for months. Walked in and was immediately greeted by the staff. They explained the menu and the daily special that's not on the main menu. Everything sounded good, but ordered the Curbside Jonny, The Basic Bowl, and Kung Pao Cauliflower. There were about 15 tables that were clean and ready inside, but decided to sit outside to enjoy the weather. There were about 10 benches with umbrellas out front and about 5 tables on a covered porch area. Placed my order and sat outside with my number. Within 10-15 minutes, they brought my order to the table. You don't have a dedicated server, but various staff are walking around the table checking if everything is ok.
All the food was hot and presented nicely. The Curbside Jonny is a double-meat patty melt served on Texas Toast. The meat was juicy and was served with layers of provolone cheese, caramelized onions, bacon, and jalapenos. It was a nice homemade burger with fresh ingredients. The Basic Bowl was a nice light bowl of quinoa with vegetables that helped offset the Curbside Jonny. The quinoa was the base, but it was generously covered with many other fresh vegetables. The surprise hit of the meal was the Kung Pao Cauliflower. They did a great job of replicating Kung Pao Chicken with Cauliflower. The sauce was great and the small pieces of peppers gave it a good amount of heat without being overbearing.
Will definitely come back to try some of the other menu items as I'm sure they'll be just as good this order. Great food...
Read moreI’ve been here a few times and I loved the food (I even left a 5 star review), however the last visit has really soured my interest in visiting again.
An employee was using the table right next to me to take a picture of food. It was uncomfortable because she kept knocking things over and she took at least 5 minutes of rearranging to be satisfied with whatever she was trying to accomplish. The worst part is that she then SERVED the food to a customer! I would be so angry if someone was touching all over my food like that, it was so inappropriate.
There were a bunch of flies, and we had to constantly swat them away. I normally don’t mind a fly… it happens to the best places, but sheesh.
The most unpleasant part was when we found out that some of the creamers were spoiled. My boyfriend used one, stirred it, and noticed lumps. Ick! He figured that it was just bad luck so he got a new cup of coffee, added creamer, and it was lumpy again. He told the photography-crazed employee that some of the creamers were bad, and she snarled “NO THEY’RE NOT” like he offended her children or something. It didn’t seem like that big of a deal, but she certainly took it personally. I did see her stalk off with the basket of creamer a little bit later.
The entire visit was awkward and uncomfortable, and neither one of us have an interest in going again. I gave it a couple of months figuring I’d change my mind, but I think that last visit just ruined it for me. It’s a shame because we love the food, but it’s just not worth the...
