This place is one of the rare oasis in the area. The variety of food is fabulous. They serve a dozen types of chilaquiles. And the Cafe de Olla, is simply extraordinary. The flavors and taste it is awesome. Leslie, the waitress, is proactive, kind and agile. On the other side, prices are definitely affordable. These are the few Pros I could mention so far. The Cons: well. The space is cozy, but few tables available, and the TV sound is sometimes too loud; so people need to talk louder and creates a not-so kind environment. The other point as a Con, is the people don’t really care about the other customer’s waiting time. You can easily take your food in twenty minutes. But people takes the time to digest and talking for almost forty mins. That is why Leslie is kind, because she is not able to put customers to rush, but eventually could be detrimental for the dine-in option. My recommendation is to the take-out option, if possible. Since you get the authentic flavor of this Mexican cuisine, at home or office. Hopefully the owners think, and they should, about the great opportunity this place has, and expand the space, whether be upstairs or rear space, or even to buy next door house. It could be a huge opportunity. In the meantime enjoy this cuisine, which is totally...
Read moreFirst time there, my brother forwarded me a YouTube video of the place. Lived here for a long time and never heard of it. The place is very small, 3 sets of 4 to a table, plus 1 at 2 for the table and I was cold. Waited a few minutes before getting menu, no chips, salsa, or utensils on table. I can do without chips, no big deal, salsa I guess you have to ask for it. I ordered Salsa Borracha, husband had verde with cecina. I received my plate first a few minutes later husband got his plate, which is when I got my utensils. Parts of my food got cold. Sauce had burnt taste, not sure if that's the way it should be, otherwise it was good, not spicy at all, a kick to it would have been nice. Husband said his was good, only problem, his coffee was too sweet. We don't use sugar as we're diabetics. Coffee had cinnamon, he said it was bit much so don't understand why it was sweet. He didn't care for that. I had water. It was ok, I'm still interested in trying the other flavors and curious about their dinners. Next time I will ask for salsa and husband probably won't be getting the coffee. I like cinnamon tea but I don't like it...
Read moreFood: Phenomenal! This is authentic Mexican food, like my grandma’s!!! Especially the chilaquiles verdes.
Coffee: out of this world! Traditional Mexican cafe de olla (it’s perfectly sweetened, likely with piloncillo, so taste before adding sugar or cream)
So the reason for the 4 stars... It is a very tiny place, which I don’t mind, but the TV and/or radio are so loud I feel like I’m at a club! No fun! I couldn’t even hear my sister-in-law who was sitting right in front of me! Also, you will come out smelling of food and oil!
6-8-22. It’s been 3 years since I first reviewed this hidden gem! It’s still one of my favorite restaurants when I’m craving food like y grandma made!
If you were lucky enough to visit pre-covid, you probably miss the chips and salsas as much as I do! Sadly, there is no plan to bring back those delicious salsas. Also, As of July 2022, the restaurant will be closed on Tuesdays. Here are some pre-covid & post covid pictures!
One last note: the bathroom is teeny tiny- clean but tiny & off the kitchen so it can be a tad bit awkward.
You won’t regret checking it out! Super...
