Donut King — Restaurant in Citrus Heights

Was desperate for donuts and stooped to this level. They all looked good. Grabbed 5 donuts for a total of $13. All tasted awful and were fairly dry. The lemon filling had a bitter aftertaste. The maple glaze was thin, hard and crisp. The cinnamon butterfly didn't taste cinnamony at all, just plain. How did they manage that? The bars with "whipped cream"...what in God's name was that stuff? It was waxy and flavorless. I could feel my arteries clogging from it. Very scary. After having already taken a couple bites, I licked it to see what it was like alone, and it didn't melt in my mouth, like fluffy plastic. Very scary. Terrible quality of ingredients. I have had worse custard filling--I'll give them that--but it's still a 1-star experience. Older gentleman at the counter clearly did not speak great English, but he was very kind in trying to answer my questions. I made sure to leave a tip in his empty tip jar. Dude deserves a few extra bucks for whatever shenanigans he must put up with being open 27 hrs. Probably has horrible customers and obviously ones who can't even toss him a buck or two. This was my very first visit to this donut shop.

I love that it open 24 hours. I love the cream puffs! Filled with custard, WOW! I also loved the glazed twist donut. But all the donuts were so soft and delicious!

Wife likes the cinnamon roll donut, and wants to try the donut holes next time.

Update: We still love this place for the rare donut 🍩 occasion!

My favorite is the apple fritter, cream puffs dozen, French ring donut with pink frosting, and the buttermilk glazed bar. Wife loves the glazed donut holes, chocolate old fashion, still loves the cinnamon roll. We also tried the cinnamon one with maple frosting it was good too.

The price is super good 👌 it's like half the price of Krispy Kreme and other donuts shops. So it's worth the drive to Citrus Heights from Roseville.

I’m a person who loves sweets and love making them. I’m not into just anything though. I like sweets that are baked good and have a nice flavor not like store brought ones. Donuts are one of my favorites. I have tried so many places before but honestly this was the best donut I have ever tried. Not only is it fresh always and open 24 hours but the donuts are well balanced in sugar. It’s not too sweet. Some donuts you feel are not fresh or the donut itself without the filling or frosting is sweet so with the other stuff it becomes sweeter and not enjoyable for me.
