Terra sur is usually one of our go to spots for a different flavor and enjoyable atmosphere. A restaurant known for nicely prepped, semi exotic meals with a nice wine selection failed upon our entry. We made reservations at an earlier time and specifically requesting in the reservation for a booth, arriving we were greeted by a young hostess. Both the lounge and the dining area were almost completely empty, with possibly 6 guests in the dining area. The hostess sat us in a hall passage, high traffic area that connects the dining and lounge area. We advised we had requested a booth however with a very snarky attitude she said they were "double booked" and had no room. I looked at her with amazement then looked around the dining area as it was completely empty. I then politely requested at minimum a table away from the hallway, again she advised no. When I advised there's no one here, she stated others requested tables an booth. I advised her we did as well and we are here now on time for our reservation. Her response with attitude as she placed our menus " next time call don't make reservations online." Absolutely absurd response, we planned on leaving as we sat there, as this young lady ruined the mood and frankly this table is placed in a horrible spot. The only reason we stayed and TerranSur take note, was our server arrived shortly after. She was pleasant, we shared a few jokes and toned down our aggravation enough to stay. The meals were as expected, having the paella, although a bit salty. The ceviche was perfect mixed with seasoning and broth with chunks of seafood. Throughout the entire meal, the restaurant stayed half empty, only when we were leaving did we notice people begin to arrive. Our reservation was for 5:30 pm we left at 645. The photo shows booths just before we left. Regardless, if you make reservations with a request, and it's available, the guests should receive that requests. I understand if tables were occupied but that was not the case. In addition this hostess was arrogant, showed no understanding or lacked any...
Read moreThis is my First Review I have ever written and i had to because it is just so upsetting. This was my favorite paella Place until Yesterday Saturday 10/21/17. After my pregnancy the one thing I was craving was their paella and we decided to go there as a family. We were going to sit outside being that we have a 2 month old baby and we had the stroller And we understand people are not always pleased with baby crying and we didn't want to bother anyone having dinner there but When we got there we could not sit outside because there is no longer drinking allowed in the outside area. We sat down inside and the baby sit they gave me to put my son's car seat in was not working, his whole body was laying down /back and he kept trying to put him self up since he was in an uncomfortable position. I was not going to have him suffer just because i was trying to have some dinner so i told my husband to go get the stroller. As soon as I placed the car seat back on the stroller he completely calmed down. After a few minutes a lady came by our table and said we could not have the stroller in because it was a fire hazard and their waitress could no pass by Which i did not understand how that was possible since we were sitting all the way to the back by the wall and the only table back there was us, and the stroller was in the middle of the way and he was fine taking our order, made sure it was not in the way because since the Beginning and i places it next to the wall so it was not in anybody's way. And I had already order and i just simple told her that i was not going to have him cry because he was obviously uncomfortable in there and we got up and left. Its really sad to see restaurants where they don't acomódate families like mine and to be honest we go out to eat every weekend and since having the baby this has been the ONLY Place I had have a problem in when it comes to babies. They can make sure that even after he doesn't uses a carseat anymore i will never go back. THIS Is NOT A FAMILY/BABY FRIENDLY RESTAURANT and they don't even deserve a...
Read moreSo, when looking at the outside of Terra Sur Cafe one might think that this is just a bad shopping center restaurant that's only good for fast food or a captive lunch audience.. YOU WOULD BE ABSOLUTELY WRONG!
To give you an idea of my palette, or lack thereof, I'm usually the one that orders burgers and fries everywhere. My usual diet is very Caucasian to say the least.. Even so I had one of the best meals that I can remember. I was equally surprised and full by the time I left. Just a great atmosphere on Saturday Nights of spanish music (not really peruvian, but still great), interior design, and staff. Our waiter was EXCELLENT and even asked if we would prefer Spanish or English; he explained everything and was perfect!
I started with Papa a la Huancaina, which is basically cold potatoes under a delicious white sauce. I thought, cold potatoes; can't be that good... WRONG.. It was EXCELLENT and the waiter recommended this sauce to mix in if we wanted to spice it up some. GREAT TIP! The closest I could describe this would be like a less mustardy and more substantial potato salad; but just the potatoes; but it was better than that... Then, the main course was Terra Sur Paella. This was a HUGE (HUGE!!) plate with a seasoned rice (EXCELLENT) and Chicken Strips, Sirloin Strips, Churizo, and Shrimp mixed in with some Clams (about 8) sticking out of the top.. Every bite was different depending on what made it on to the fork.. This might be enough for two people; though we opted for a plate for each of us and had PLENTY for left overs.
Overall the ambiance and food were top notch. SO much so that I decided to write a review of this place; something that I have NEVER done before.. It's such a shame that this is hidden away, but that's not stopping the crowds; we got there a little late on Saturday (8pm) and had about a 45 minute wait for 6 people; not bad for a Saturday night.
If you're in Tampa and are looking to skip another weekend at a chain restaurant, be adventurous and give Terra Sur Cafe a try; you WILL NOT BE...
