This is my 120 th review. I have driven or walked by 275 dining places on 2 continents. I have visited about 175 establishments. Anyone who has read my reviews knows I try to write in an easily readable format. I try to make fair calls on ratings and realize that it is my feeling alone and only on the item I have decided to try. High class food is not a requirement. Frugality in all things has stood me well. I am fortunate to get a good quantity of views, both in photos and text. Thank you for indulging me in this prelude. Now for #120. A week and a half ago I visited McGeary's with some family before a young people's event at the Palace Theater, an icon of the city which i have also reviewed. We had various items and i decided on a standard bar food, a burger and fries. I get my burger well done so it can be hard not to cook it until it is a hockey puck. The chef did a great job and it was just the way i like it. The fries were standard fries. All in all, it was quite good. I had a beer and it was a short one and it is pleasant to me when establishments have smaller glasses available. The were no complaints from the adults and youngsters. A good time was had by all. Our waitress was Chrissy, in the photo along with Tess, the owner, holding one of the kids artworks. Christy was upbeat, friendly and worked hard to take care of our bigger group, always with style. It was fun talking to Tess, the owner, who always had a smile, also says Al, inside comment. It had been a long while since I was here, and I shall return. I hope this long narrative did not bother any readers.

I love Irish pubs. I decided to stop by McGearys for food and drinks after a show at the empire 09/02. It’s a really cool place, great atmosphere, I ordered wings and they were good, I loved their sauce. One of the bartenders, I believe he is Latino, was very nice, my main bartender was the tall guy (in the background of the picture). He wasn’t very welcoming, had a nasty attitude, and at some point he stopped asking me if I needed anything else or more NON alcoholic Heineken beers that I was drinking, I had to finish my food without even water lol. I tried to get his attention and he was just nasty, not sure what his problem was, it wasn’t busy at all, I felt so unwelcome that I texted my group of friends to meet me at another bar instead and i waited for the one nice bartender to walk pass by to get my check. I probably won’t come back if the rude bartender is working at the bar, it’s sad because it’s a really cool pub.

Our waitress was very disappointing. When she came over to take our drink order the beer menu was rather large so i changed my beer choice twice. I made sur to tell her that if my beer was poured leave it be. Then i found another beer of choice and went up to bar to see if i cud change it. She did after rolling her eyes and responding to me final answer!. When I did get my beer it had a funky taste and smell to it. So i brought it up to bar and asked for the same beer in a bottle or can. She seemed very agitated. She brought beer over to table and slammed it on the table and walked away. I went up to apologize to the male bartender and explained to him wat had transpired between me and waitress and explained to him that the beer was skunky. He apologized and assured me that was not a problem. The food was served by a server and not once did waitress ck on us. After paying the bill on our way out i let the waitress know how disappointed i was with our service particularly with her. The server was good bartender was good. I explained to her that her tip wud have been better without her attitude. Her response was you dont have to tip me. I responded fine. I went back to table retrieved the tip and passed it on to bartender cause he took the time to explain the issue with the tap beer i orderd and repeatedly apologized. I have been there before and wud probably give another try but was really irritated with our waitress. I failed to get her name but im sure she would not have given it to me if i had asked. Oh last thing, i asked for extra crispy wings and they were not even close to being extra crispy. I didnt wanna bring that up to waitress for fear of wat she might have done to the wings if i...

We were a party of 4 and arrived at this Pub at 5:00 PM. We were going to attend a show at Capital Theater across the street at 8:00 PM. We were told we would have a table outside (beautiful summer early evening) in 20 minutes…We went inside to have a drink which was server fairly quick. We then waited over 45 minutes and had to track down the lady that was seating customers, she said “it wouldn’t be much longer”. After another 20 min or so we were finally called. (We were obviously overlooked several times)…We sat down outside and ordered food within 5 minutes. We didn’t receive our order for 1 hr and 35 minutes:( . We were ready to leave due to the show starting in 20 minutes. We kept asking why this delay is happening and the response was “there’s only one person in the Kitchen and it’s backed up”…We were very patient and our waitress was very nice but this Pub as far as the Kitchen is obviously poorly managed!!! Our food finally was served and we gulped it down and went to the show and walked into the Theater just as the show was starting… The Pub caters more to their drinking customers, which I understand but if you advertise for food at least have reasonable service or close the Kitchen!! There were probably 40 people inside the Pub and about 30 outside. Being that you’re directly across the street from the Theater and on a show night no less you definitely weren’t prepared!!! We will find another place next time!! Show at Capital Theater was fantastic!!!! Drinks at the Bar were very good. Everything went south after the drink!! Don’t like giving bad reviews but sometimes...
