I love Irish pubs. I decided to stop by McGearys for food and drinks after a show at the empire 09/02. It’s a really cool place, great atmosphere, I ordered wings and they were good, I loved their sauce. One of the bartenders, I believe he is Latino, was very nice, my main bartender was the tall guy (in the background of the picture). He wasn’t very welcoming, had a nasty attitude, and at some point he stopped asking me if I needed anything else or more NON alcoholic Heineken beers that I was drinking, I had to finish my food without even water lol. I tried to get his attention and he was just nasty, not sure what his problem was, it wasn’t busy at all, I felt so unwelcome that I texted my group of friends to meet me at another bar instead and i waited for the one nice bartender to walk pass by to get my check. I probably won’t come back if the rude bartender is working at the bar, it’s sad because it’s a really cool pub.

My boyfriend and I stopped here for drinks and a bite before seeing a concert at the Palace Theater. When we arrived, two hours before the show, the place was hopping. They were only serving food indoors, so we put our names in with the hostess, grabbed a couple of pints, and headed outside to wait. The hostess who was the queen of no-nonsense and a dry sense of humor, greeted everyone with a raised eyebrow and a knowing smirk...making sure we knew she was not going to come look for us outside, and we needed to know our order upon being seated. The food was typical pub food...I had a burger, and my boyfriend had a chicken dish...but the real entertainment came from the hostess whose sarcasm and wit left us feeling very lucky to have gotten anything at all to eat or drink before the concert. She certainly added some unique flavor to this pub's atmosphere!

I've been to McGeary's dozens of times and have always had a wonderful experience! The food is always delicious, I enjoyed a patty melt on this visit while the others in my party enjoyed the classic burger and lobster bisque and were equally impressed. McGeary's is the place you go when you want to see a friendly, familiar face, it's the gathering place of Albany. The owner, Tess, is a huge factor of why McGeary's is so captivating. The hospitality runs deep within her and her bright smile and warm demeanor make you feel that you're always amongst a dear friend. She is the epitome of a hands-on restaurateur who stands by her team through the busiest times to lend a helping hand. If you're looking for a cold beer, quality bar food or a great cocktail with local-gem vibes I definitely recommend checking it out!

On a layover and looking for food around the hotel. The menu I received was bare bones compared to items posted here on the Google listing. Ordered the hotdogs, couldn’t get a side of fries instead of chips. The hotdogs weren’t even warm when they came out. After I finished the hotdogs, I asked about the missing side pickle and this (pictured) is what my waitress returned with, meanwhile the other table had gotten a spear. You can have a better meal from 7-Eleven. On a positive note, the beer (Sloop Juice) was good. So if your looking to have a drink, sure, but anything more.. I’d look elsewhere.

This was my first time visiting this bar when I went with friends to watch the 2024 Super Bowl. I was really pleased with the experience 😀. The staff were great, attentive and friendly to all, and the atmosphere felt like a familiar place. It gave me a nostalgic feeling almost like the being pet of the show Cheers, “where everybody knows your name and you’re always glad you came.” Several of the other people I know have also been to this location and say the same. I will definitely be returning AND going to make sure to try the cheesecake. 😊
