I had very high hopes for this restaurant when I first stepped through the door. The atmosphere was wonderful and very tranquil and then I tried the food.... First I tried their raspberry saketini which was very good and moderately priced. Appetizers for a crab cream cheese roll with a ginger sauce which was very appetizing and matched with shrimp tempura, which was highly unseasoned and very very bland. The tempura batter was rather undercooked on top of that so it gave it a gummy mushy feel in the mouth. Then came.......the disaster Zone. I had a beef Padtai dish, while echnically not Japanese, it still was done horribly. It was drenched and what tasted like a bottled sweet and sour sauce. Heavy on the sour and sweet. The entire dish was practically swimming in it and it made it inedible. My lovely dinner companion had a mango chicken dish with brown rice let's just say the brown rice was the feature component of the dish. The rice was a clump of grainy starch and it still tasted better than the mango chicken. The mango chicken with a thick batter still undercooked is unforgivable since it tasted heavily of freezer burn and Refrigeration. No amount of soy sauce or chopped up pepper and mango could cover up the unappetizing taste. On the bright side our server Karen was very affable and helpful and served us in an expedient manner. However the owner when making change for us to pay for our meal conveniently neglected to give us the correct change so that we could pay our server I had to make up the difference for what he pocketed! Shame Shame shame, Mr. Miyagi! Overall, our eel roll was delicious. That was all!!! I would rather commit suicide with my samurai sword before daring to dine again at Shogun Restaurant on Madison Avenue in Albany. Here is the Japanese I learned, YeeYuck.

I recently dined at SHOGUN, an authentic Japanese restaurant and sushi bar in Albany, and it was an exceptional experience. This restaurant truly stands out for several reasons. First and foremost, SHOGUN boasts an extensive food selection that caters to a variety of tastes. From traditional Japanese dishes to an impressive sushi menu, there's something for everyone. Additionally, their premium drink and cocktail collections complement the meal perfectly, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the dining experience. What struck me most was the impeccable service. The staff at SHOGUN are not only fast but also incredibly cordial. They took our orders accurately, ensuring that every dish was prepared to our satisfaction. This level of attentiveness is a rarity and greatly enhanced our dining experience. Furthermore, it's worth noting that SHOGUN has achieved the highest level of honor from the Department of Health—EXCELLENT COMPLIANCE. This recognition speaks volumes about the restaurant's commitment to maintaining top-notch hygiene and safety standards. It's a testament to their dedication to providing a clean and healthy dining environment. In summary, SHOGUN in Albany is a true gem. With its diverse menu, premium drinks, exceptional service, and outstanding health compliance record, it's a dining establishment that deserves the highest praise. I highly recommend a visit to experience the excellence firsthand.

I like to confirm either in person or over the phone. My order in total was for $94 I called and asked if the order has either shellfish or encrustations. They said no. Got the order and not only was it mostly food I couldn't eat, they didn't apologize and mentioned the images weren't of their restaurants food, just something they use. I didn't get a refund for the delivery, and The part that pissed me off is that zero apologies and no accountability. I've eaten there many times but this will be my last. This was why I posted this. I asked for a refund, I was questioned why the field with order info was empty, this was after saying I called to confirm that what I saw in the image was what was getting delivered. If you order a PB&J do you expect to have to ask for ingredients? I have and allergy to most of what I received.

Tl;dr: Sadly the waitress was pretty rude. She had made a mistake, and brought us the incorrect dish for a part of our order. She was short with us. She refused to take the item back! :( Furthermore she refused to remove the incorrect item from our bill at that time. Nonetheless, we proceeded to then add the correct item to the bill ((again)) because it was one of the only reasons we were initially even thinking of choosing this venue.

If you've been to Shogun in Albany near Washington Park and have eaten here, you may even know of whom I am speaking of!. Audacity coming out of the nose and ears.

"Oh, read some of the reviews", so I'm told.

Well! My fiancé had done that prior, at at some point and then again after the experience we most recently had. And she remembered that this establishment actually has had multiple poor reviews in the past regarding some of the service here.

WELL!! A couple of weeks ago we wanted to go on a date night and I had been all but having dreams about some shrimp tempura sushi rolls. Yum.

There was no wait when we entered and the environment was nice enough. Cleanly.

The woman who waited our table seemed to work with haste. Which wasn't to our favor. ESPECIALLY since there was legitimately no apparent rush at the sushi bar nor much traffic to and from the kitchen really. I digress. The place was pretty desolate for lack of trying to come up with a better word. Hmm, empty then, perhaps ? NO NEED FOR HASTE, BASICALLY!

We placed our order my fiancé did. She had it written on a notes app via her smartphone. She showed our waitress and read the order at the same time to her so as to simply specify what we wanted.

We ordered: *sweet potato sushi rolls *vegetable pad Thai, +add shrimp we ordered I believe some sort of dumplings as well and the shrimp tempura rolls, too, of course

The food came. They brought it to the table. We looked at the shrimp tempura they brought to the table for a second, then my fiancé and I looked at each other with confused looks on our faces. My fiancé flagged down the waitress and explained that we wanted the shrimp tempura rolls and not the shrimp tempura dish itself.

Long story short though yes, she would NOT take back the shrimp tempura dish! NOR would she deduct the item from our bill, even as it was stressed to then that we did not want the item. And yet, still we consecutively proceeded to have ((again)) the shrimp tempura rolls ordered and had them (obviously) added to the order. It's really the one thing I'd mainly been yearning for when we went there , hah... jokes on us, though, really.

I paid. I signed my copy of the check. I actually very innocently forgot and missed really the spot to put in an amount for a tip on the check. She still though had the kahunas to promptly mention this and ask for a tip...! Like flat out drop the check back on the table and pointed, "tip, no tip?"

Wowie!!

Again, big SOLID JADE balls this woman had! If you want to order here, I recommend you ORDER OUT AND HAVE THEM READ BACK YOUR ORDERS, like you have to do with a fast food workers! It's not that there is poor service rather a simple (yet totally NOT simple) erm. How you say? LANGUAGE BARRIER ON THE FRONT...

I went there yesterday with my kids. I was very excited to try there sushi and kani salad. When I first walked in the greeter did not greet me. I had to say hello first. For her to say something to me. I was not greeted upon walk-in. I ordered shrimp tempura sushi, California rolls, udon soup, miso soup, shrimp stir fry noodles, and crispy fried chicken with mango sauce. The sushi was good, the stir fry was good, and the kani salad was delicious. However the waitress brang me out shrimp tempura, when i asked for tempura sushi......... i was not going to say anything, and was just going to keep it, because it did look good. However when I bit into the shrimp tempura and onions rings there was absolutely no flavor what so ever. Than I tried my crispy chicken. That also had no flavor what so ever. The only flavor it did have was from me dipping the chicken in the mango sauce. The udon soup had a strong fishy taste, that i did not like. The food look very appealing, but when I ate it my taste buds thought other wise. I also asked the waitress if they had any refreshers or non alcholic beverages that I can order with mint in it, she made no attempt to offer me anything, and said they were out of mint. I let the waitress know I didnt like the food and that it had no flavor and her response was "What do you want me to do about that"? I asked her to speak to the manager. He refunded me my order. The Place is great for sushi anything else I would say dont waste...
