Nice furnishing and very clean. There is a fully functional kitchen and nice garden/ backyard area. Couple things to be aware of about this bed and breakfast: Parking is street side (if you can find a spot available). Otherwise $10 more for a gated parking spot. Be sure to be in contact with them, for clarity on which building to enter (not marked). Doors are locked, so they have to let you in. Use the push button intercom outside the door to paige them. Though be forewarned they may only give you a rushed overview. No bucket for ice in room. Be sure to request ahead if you need/want one. It's an old building, so the wood floors and staircase is very creaky and loud, esp at night while going up to your room. There are 4 floors, so if you get a room at the top, you will get plenty of exercise going up the stairs (not necessarily a bad thing). The bathroom is a bit cramped, but overall the rooms are very nice. Expect standard continental breakfast fare. Again, all of this is simply to help clarify what to expect, not necessarily a bad thing. They have very nice and helpful staff that will try to accommodate your needs if they are available. Apparently their office is below the kitchen and they are generally not on site after 7pm, so be in contact if planning to check in after that. There are quite a few restaurants and bars within walking distance and you get personalized coupons, however be sure to check if they are open. Apparently many close on...
Read moreOur company recently utilized this stunning property to home out-of-state team members. I clearly did not do my research efficiently because I was quite unprepared for the wonderment of the Morgan State House Inn, right from the moment I was welcomed into the front door to do a walk-thru before our guests arrived.
I would HIGHLY recommend this establishment for any guest, or even for the local community for a little 'staycation'. The Brownstone, as well as the room, was impeccable. The garden/courtyard was inviting and magical. The service that the staff offers is unparalleled. The location is perfect, surrounded by dining and shopping options, as well as being located across from the historical (and beautiful) Washington Park, and the incredible architecture of the Capitol buildings and Empire Plaza; all within walking distance.
Oh, and all of this is available at a very reasonable rate and the rooms and other offerings surpass what the local hotels can offer. Off-street parking is provided to guests for a nominal fee; well worth it.
The Morgan State House Inn is a wonderful option for so many traveling needs. Perfect for a newly married couple, an anniversary treat, holiday guests, business travelers who need the ultimate comfort; just a wonderful gem to be found nestled within several of the historic buildings...
Read moreHaving usually stayed at Hiltons or other such major brand hotels, I appreciated the opportunity to have a different and distinct experience during my trip to Albany. There is a vibrant sense of intimacy and informality that I quite appreciated. The main building of the inn has been converted by its owners from a structure that was quite futuristic and avant-garde during its time, featuring Japanese influences that influenced much of Western architecture in the latter half of the 19th century. The building where most of the rooms are is not quite as notable from an architectural standpoint, but it's still a gorgeous building. It's a monument to a bygone era, when wild ornamentation was not yet taboo and a true sense of grandeur and permanence was to be encouraged. I certainly prefer the building itself over the slightly austere and anonymously inert atmosphere of many modern hotels.
Even if you are not a devotee of 19th century architecture like me, the experience of being here is still comfortable and reassuring, friendly without being overbearing. The room keys are a bit of an iffy proposition, but if you keep working at them, you should be able to...
