Holy Wong Chinese — Restaurant in City of Dunkirk

This post is going to hurt me more than it will hurt Holy Wrong, I'm afraid. The only consulation is that my brother paid for our dinner for three because he felt guilty about what happened to our Thanksgiving. Because this was always my "go to" restaurant whether I was breaking a diet for the weekend or as a treat from standing over a stove for dinner, I counted on Holy Wong to do it right. My usual was always Shrimp Egg Foo Young. Sadly, those days are over. Because I didn't want to stick it to my brother, I asked for a simple Sweet & Sour Chicken. I'm not very hard to please most of the time and I've been known to choke down some very questionable food items so as to not hurt anyone's feelings. But all I did on this night was bite into one piece of the supposed chicken before handing the entire container to my dog. It wasn't chicken or any other kind of meat product. After hearing what this meal cost my brother, I did the only thing I could do: make a vow to never go there again. I don't know what happened to my Comfort Place and I really hated writing this. Maybe someday, I will be able to go back and everything will be as it was for so many years. I guess we will see.

On the bright side, the batter on the supposed chicken was still okay as was the sweet & sour sauce. I so hated writing...

I have not been inside in over a year. My husband has always picked up our order. I went this time.... The inside has gone downhill. Signage is faded, unreadable, and almost unrecognizable. Just seems dingy inside. Well, I guessed that pandemic was hard for everyone, so I tried not to be too judgy. I ordered our usual "General Tso chicken." It used to be our favorite. It was NOT good. More fried chicken skin and fat chunks, so hard it couldn't be chewed. The sauce is amazing, but you can't put amazing sauce on scraps. The fried rice had hardly any veggies in it and was well over cooked. The 2 pieces of broccoli were very good. The inner layer of the egg roll wrap was raw as though dropped in oíl while frozen, and it browned outside, but inside didn't get hot enough to cook properly.??? The time before this wasn't good, but this trip sealed it for us. We will try the one in Silver Creek?? I have heard it was still good....

They currently have the dining room closed, so it's takeout only. Goos food for the average American palate, decent food if you have ever been in country. Friendly staff, that remembers is, and even my kom, from her old shop, before she passed on, 20 years ago.

Been in the same location the last 30 uears, next to Save A Lot, formerly Bells, in the 4th street plaza, next to Cricket and Dollar general, so you 3ould call ahead, or place youe order, do your shopping, and pick up lunch or dinner, on the way home. Same if you are stopping by Walgreen's or CVS, at the corners of Wast 4th and Main.
