Let me tell you, and trust my word on this one; this place is a rare find, and it is nothing less than superb. And, I’m not one who is easily impressed by restaurants.
My daughter and son in law took myself and my wife to Zouji Dumpling House on Mother’s Day for the first time. My wife is Chinese and we have lived in Asia for many years and of course have eaten plenty of good Chinese food. Very hard to impress either one of us, especially my wife, who is also a fine Chinese chef.
But, we were both shocked by the incredible delicious quality of all our dishes here. My wife is finishing off the leftovers as I write this, after just leaving the restaurant. The talk in the car ride home was utter excitement over a truly great eating experience.
We had the braised lobster, spicy sautéed string beans, (best on the planet) sautéed greens, spicy tofu, stewed beef, soup dumplings. Each dish outdid the next.
The appetizer of fresh roasted salted peanuts really got my taste buds perking, and refreshing jasmine tea throughout. And, I am known to have a bad stomach, but not after this hearty meal. It digested clean and happy. As they say, “You don’t have to be hungry to enjoy food here.” If you’re not hungry, the tantalizing tastes will turn your appetite ravishing.
The restaurant atmosphere is quaint, humble, Chinese village-like in demeanor, with very interesting hand-painted Chinese art all around, and boasts a profound coziness. The wait staff is very efficient, pleasant and quite serious about serving your dishes properly with good manners.

Read moreA delicious take out experience! Food was ready by the time I selected to pick it up, was in and out quick.
Food: Garlic shredded pork (medium spicy) 5/5: this was delicious with just a flavorful and enjoyable level of spice. Spice brought a light burn to my lips, I’m not the most spice tolerant. Sriracha is my happy place spice wise for reference. sesame chicken 5/5: very tender, juicy chicken. The sauce was sweeter than I expected, but it’s not a dish I’ve gotten before. Very good, especially for lunch the next day. pork soup dumplings 5/5: very big, filled with delicious pork and soup. Almost too big to eat in one bite - almost! Great portion of soup and pork filling. pork and sour cabbage fried dumpling 4/5: these were good, nothing remarkable which is why a 4, whereas I thought the other items were very very good. I think the sauce was what I didn’t like as much about them.
Based on my experience, I happily recommend Zouji for getting high quality, flavorful Chinese food in Glen Cove. It’s my favorite of the Chinese restaurants I’ve tried in town (3 total). I will be back the next time I’m craving...

Wow, the flavors were delicious! It's definitely more authentic than the "normal" Chinese fast food places and very reasonably priced as well. I was expecting my fish to have a thick breading swimming in a goey sauce, but it was lightly breaded fillets with dry sauteed onions and fragrant cumin which is what I much prefer! My only gripe is the portions are small. Especially since it tasted so good, I wanted more. Will definitely be returning...
Update: Subsequently returned for dine in... loved every dish. This is definitely authentic Chinese food, so thrilled theres a decent real chinese restaurant in this area. We had their in house handmade lamb dumplings, lamb noodle soup, scallion pancakes, okra (so healthy!) hot and sour soup, sweet and sour fish, & peking duck. The soup had a hint of too much sugar, but other than that, every dish was excellent. The waiter/cashier/host is a one man show, which is tough since he was also answering calls, amongst all his other responsibilities! He...
