Who doesn’t love empanadas (meat pies)? Seems like each culture has a version and these Filipino ones from Josephine’s are a fine example. Combine that with free samples for a special event and it makes them that much more spectacular. I love the dot system they use to identify each one, but it’s not perfect. I think they are missing one. As you can see from the card on the box, there are four dot combinations, but they have five types so one is missing. No big deal since I was eating most of them on my own :)
Flavor wise, the beef and cheese corn were my favorites. The beef is ground and had wonderful flavors. Hard to describe the cheese corn other than it tastes just like it sounds, but very creamy. The tuna was ok and I’m sure there are fans, but just not for me. Tasted very much like tuna casserole in a small bite. The chicken was also very good. I don’t think I got a chicken fajita, even though I ordered one of each on top of the two free ones for the special event (beef and chicken).
Place is super clean and staff very friendly and helpful. This was my first time trying the Filipino version, so had a lot of questions. Love the individual packets of sriracha as well. I put hot sauce on everything, so seeing the sriracha packets on each table was a good sign. Very smart to have the self service water and utensils as well.

Read moreEvery morning, my partner requires either a blood sacrifice, or a strong cup of coffee. The latter brought us to Starbucks this morning. The beast, knowing he would be appeased, took mercy on me when I said, “Amor, EMPANADAS! We’re getting some!”
Empanadas are some of my favorite food. Ever since I was little and I had barely-edible elementary school cafeteria empanadas, I just can’t get enough. But since then, I’m inclined to try any empanadas I find at least once, especially savory ones.
These did NOT disappoint. Soft, crisp, slightly sweet and savory exterior. And every single type of filling we tried was lovely.
We had 2 Beef, 1 Chicken, 2 Mushroom and 1 Peach/Mango/Pineapple. And knowing how much we loved them and how we made sure to taste each others’ (I got the chicken and he got the PMP), I wish we’d tried some more variety.
I can’t wait to go back!!! Thanks for such an amazing tasty dose...
Read moreToday the 10th which is Veterans Day, would be a good day to have empanadas. Stop by at a filipino bakery especializing in empanadas. Empanadas are really good but customer service need a lot of improvement. The young lady that served us was very cold, no greeting, no thank you, not even a little smile. It feels like she doesn't want to be there. Sad, and I hope she is not the owner. No wonder we were the only customer. With this kind of service and even with good empanadas, there won't be many repeat customers. I will be thinking twice coming back at this place because there are many good empanada vendors at West Covina. Nowadays, with inflation and a quesionable economy, it's desirable to experience good food and good customer service if not...
