A wholesome Taiwanese spot serving up cozy Taiwanese meals and dishes that make you miss your trips to Taiwan. You order at the counter and take a seat at any available tables. When you're finished with your meal, you are responsible for filtering your trash by food waste and trash. They have a lot of offerings on their menu so it can definitely be intimidating but if you're a first timer, I would definitely stick to what fellow Yelpers recommend first and then branch out to something different. I personally like ordering from their lunch special menus because depending on which one you order, it can come with a small cold dish or a side of soup and black or green tea. The complimentary items are not meant to be amazing, it should rather compliment your meal. It's not the tastiest Taiwanese food that I've had and honestly some items are probably better than the others, but it hits the spot when you're craving it. They also don't seem to turn on the A/C so I would recommend not coming here when it's super hot. Take your order to go or stop by when the weather is cooler. Just note that they are closed on Mondays and are only open for a limited time from 11am - 3pm from Tuesday through Sunday. The last call for orders is 30 minutes before closing.

|| L O C A T I O N / P A R K I N G || -Cross Streets are Gale Ave. and Turnball Canyon Road. -Located in a shopping plaza with plenty of parking

|| F O O D || D#13 Popcorn Chicken - Holy guacamole they give you so much! I love that they aren't shy with the basil because what makes Taiwanese popcorn chicken so fragrant is when you fry it with enough basil. The seasoning is on point, I love that I don't have to rely on sauces to get some flavor. They use dark meat here which is my preference.

D#14 Fried Stinky Tofu - I was so excited to learn that they had Taiwanese stinky tofu. It's such a classic dish. The kimchi was good but the portions of the stinky tofu were quite sad. It's priced at the same point as the popcorn chicken, so I didn't get this again when I visited the 2nd time.

D#16 Fried Pork Chitterlings - If you love intestines, then this is definitely worth trying. I think they braise the intestines and then fry it. Super crispy and the portion was decent.

Fried Chicken Steak - They also offer this as one of their set meals, but I had already set my eyes on ordering the Braised Pork Rice so I just ordered this as a side. Again, the portions are super generous and the batter of the chicken steak was chef's kiss. Soooo crispy, I wish some fried chicken spots could take some notes on this.

#1 House Braised Pork with Rice - This particular lunch set is priced at $15.50 and it comes with a selection of a cold dish, soup and tea. Note that only lunch sets come with the option to add a cold dish (select from D#1 - D#5). This seems like a simple dish but surprisingly not a lot of restaurants can make it authentic. I thought it was pretty authentic and I liked how they were very generous with the braised pork and sauce. It was a heft portion and I got like 2-3 meals out of it.

#10 Taiwanese Style Stew Pork Shank Rice - I didn't get to try this but my dad really enjoyed it and both times that I've been to Yumi Time, he's always requested to order this. He's very picky with his Taiwanese food so I take this as a good sign that it's delicious!

#12 Red Grain Pork Rice - This one was okay. I think if you're really craving this, Monja Taiker is the spot to hit up. The portions of the pork were generous though.

#14 Taiwanese Style Squid Soup with Noodles - this was such a comforting noodle soup. The broth was tasty and it reminded me of the ones I would get in Taiwan.

#19 Fried Pork Chop Rice - This one was okay too, nothing too special but it filled up my tummy when I was...

Sunday 9/15/24 Lunch at Yumi Time in City of Industry with my friend Erwin. Introducing him to Taiwanese foods; fried chicken over steamed rice and green or black iced tea. I’m glad he enjoyed it. It’s so delicious and filling. It hits the spot.

David Young Restaurant Enthusiast ————— Tuesday 8/20/24 Lunch at Yumi Time in City of Industry with my friend Frank. Introducing Frank to the best fried chicken (Taiwanese style) with steam rice, veggies, soup, and black or green tea. I’ve been craving for this dish and it hits the spot.

David Young Restaurant Enthusiast —————- Saturday 2/24/24 Lunch at Yumi Time in City of Industry. Trying out this Taiwanese style foods restaurant. The foods I’ve ordered was delicious. Braised chicken with gravy, veggies, eggs Sunnyside up, meatballs soup, and white rice. The flavors and spices were made just right and tasty without any over bearing taste of a particular spice. I’ve enjoyed the meal: the meatball soup with a little raw diced celery add crunch and unique flavor. The meatballs tasted really good without any cheap fillers. The braised chicken was perfectly spiced with their awesome gravy on the side for the chicken and rice to brings the foods to the next level.

Alex, restaurant manager, and a female staff were friendly and attentive.

Word of advice to restaurant owner(s): the foods were delicious, however, there can be an improvement to gain more business. I felt the portion of rice should be increase. Here is the reason why. For your customers who has a good appetite (including myself) due to the less (not enough) portion of the rice included in the meal, the customer won’t feel satisfied and may have to go elsewhere to eat more. When spending about $15-$20 for a meal, it should be a one stop restaurant to feel satisfied. If not, customers won’t be returning to the restaurant. Provide a little more rice to the meal; it is inexpensive and can provide a word of mouth advising for your restaurant.

Restaurant is open from 11am-3:00pm, 6 days a week. These are mostly lunch hours. Please expand your hours to include lunch and or dinner so more customers can go and give you business. I attempted to go to dinner one evening and found that it was closed.

I recommend trying out this restaurant. I will be going back to try the other dishes on the menu.

This place is a great spot. I’m starting to think hole in the wall is a legitimate phrase because I didn’t expect to find a little treasure trove of a spot in this part of the town. It’s located on the right end of the plaza. When you enter in, it has this pop culture feel with some posters that mainly consists of French bulldogs. My friend and I ordered the red grain pork rice and the braised pork chop rice. You can order one item from the array of side dishes on the back to go with the braised pork chop rice combo. Both orders also came with a soup, which you can choose from the list as well. Both dishes came with either a green or black tea. The teas were slightly sweet and not overbearing. I ordered the braised cabbage, had a nice flavor of umami and overall tasty. The braised pork was definitely tender and flavorful with some thick (not too thick) brown sauce. It was great with the rice. The red grain pork was light and crispy, overall flavorful. I really liked the braised looking pickle. I was expecting a strong flavor/taste from it but it was overall nicely balanced and flavored with a hint of spice. I would come back here again to try other dishes. I am curious about the black pepper chicken as I’m used to eating that type of dish in these sorts of places. I would recommend...

The three tastiest dishes were Braised Pork Shank & Bamboo Shoots Rice, Miso Fish, and Fried Chicken Filet! Braised Pork Shank & Bamboo Shoots Rice: There was no porky smell at all, and both the skin and meat were braised so flavorful that the chopsticks picked it up and the meat just fell right off the bone. The best part was the pork skin, where the sauce and fat blended together into a gelatinous bite that melted in my mouth. Miso Fish: The meat was juicy, and the skin with the melted fat had a silky smooth texture—it was every bit as good as the miso fish from a Japanese restaurant. House Fried Chicken Filet: Comparing with LaTa Kitchen inside Secoya Market next door: (1) LaTa used chicken breast, but this place used the more tender thigh meat. (2) LaTa’s meat was thick but pretty average in texture, while here the thin slices tasted way better. (3) Their fried chicken cutlet had a crispy surface sprinkled with a layer of red powder that boosted the flavor. (4) Even after sitting too long and getting cold from taking photos, the chicken cutlet was still super tasty, with the crispy and tender texture completely intact. (5) LaTa sold it for $10.99, but this place only sold it for $9.99. Taiwanese Spicy Beef Noodle Soup: You could pick dry or soup noodles. It wasn’t really spicy at all, so even people who couldn’t handle heat would’ve been fine. The beef chunks with all that soft, melty collagen were super tender, and the broth was rich and tasty. Honestly, the chunky beef was way more satisfying than the thin slices I used to get at Chef Hung’s in Irvine Diamond Jamboree. And even though I messed around too long taking photos, the noodles didn’t get mushy—they still had that bouncy bite, which I really liked. Chiayi Chicken Rice: Kinda funny to say, but I actually liked the crispy shallots more than the shredded chicken. I even felt that just mixing the shallots with plain white rice, without any sides or sauce, was already super satisfying. Minced Pork & Pickles Rice: Super good with rice. It was a bit salty, oily but not greasy, and had that classic authentic Taiwanese flavor. Fried Red Yeast Pork: Since I didn’t usually go for flavors that heavy, I preferred eating it without dipping sauce. Plus, the pork itself already had a really nice taste, so the sauce wasn’t a must. Braised Duck with Bamboo Shoots: The tender skin and meat with cilantro and the slightly sweet bamboo shoots made it even tastier, but I had to watch out for the tiny bones in the meat. Black tea or green tea: Came with the set meal. It tasted like a lightly sweetened cold drink, maybe about 10% sugar, and even someone like me who worried about gout could drink it without concern.

I've heard of this restaurant during the pandemic and tried their hot items like the stewed ham hock (don't remember the other items as they were given to us by our friend). We've finally had a chance to dine in. Honestly, after eating there, we were very disappointed 😞. The food was OK and we didn't know they would be all in to-go containers, even for my hotplate noodles with chicken, no hot plate, just a square plastic container... I got the feeling the owner wasn't even trying to run the restaurant anymore. The pictures people took for this restaurant were quite impressive. Long line was out in the parking lot... I wonder what happened?? The chicken cutlets weren't even cut, you'd have to use the flimsy plastic knife and fork to cut them. We wanted to support Taiwanese restaurants, but sadly, this is one I will not visit again.

One of the best Taiwanese restaurants around town. Came here after reading an article about this place having the best minced pork rice and had to try it myself before it "potentially closed" (due to inflated rent). The food was amazing and certainly reminded me of home. The portion was also good for the value. I sincerely hope the owner can work out a deal with the landlord as it would be a shame for such an amazing place to be out of business. They also have a good variety of frozen packaged food which were unavailable at the time of my visit due to the uncertainty of the business continuity. Definitely recommended!!!
